Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Happy 25th Birthday Game Boy (Talk about your best experiences on Nintendo Handhelds)

I remember having a light, magnifying glass, and speaker attached to mine and playing under the covers at night. Thought it was the greatest thing, ever!

My siblings and I had a Gameboy since before I can remember but some of the games we had when I was a wee little tike were

Tetris
Super Mario Land 2
Wario Land
Dr. Mario
Metroid 2
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Gremlins 2
Judge Dredd

Pokémon then came out when I was 6 and was my first must have game, basically the game that went on to make gaming an actual hobby of mine.

If it came our in 1989 wouldn't it be 26 years old?

My thoughts when i seen the topic haha I remember it celebrated it's 25th last year because i got mine out and play a game of Super Mario Land and Kirby's Dreamland on it. So Happy 26th Birthday to the Gameboy!

My fondest memories with my old Game Boy Pocket was playing Pokemon Blue Version during lunch break at school. Getting the bike, moving Snorlax out of the way, going thru the Team Rocket HQ maze, finally defeating Gary at the end and finally encountering Mewtwo by myself and psychic-ing my way to the top. Those were the days.

Probably responsible for enough eye strain to mess up my sight today.... I preferred the game gear. :p

Still, there's something so cool about the Gameboy and I recall flipping through pages of games that my cousin owned in a folder. The music of some of those games really hits me with the nostalgia stick.

I got really into it later around the time pokemon came out. Fun times.

my mom left my gameboy on the car roof, didnt matter it still works 20 years later.

Ah the GameBoy, you make me feel old.

I had (well, have) a transparent one. The coolest thing ever. I had (well, again, have) a decent collection and I remember playing Super Mario Land, Alleyway and Tennis a lot. Tennis, probably the first game to piss me off because I couldn't win. I always brought on holidays and every kid used to be in awe that I had such a thing.

Innocent times, which drastically changed once I got Link's Awakening and Pokemon Blue together with a GameBoy Color. Then handheld gaming became serious bussiness. All three of these items got eaten by my dog once, and the Pokemon cartridge still bears the scars. As a real Nintendo product would, it still works. Though it's screen needed replacing. Both Link's Awakening and Pokemon Blue would go on to become two of my favorite gaming experiences, with the former ranking as high as fifth on my all time list. Of all the brilliant games GameBoy had, that one is the greatest.

Considering the Color, it's still my favorite handheld system ever made. The 3DS though has proven itself to fibally be an equal, and that I'm even contemplating it as a replacement for the throne is a testament to it's own glory. I hope I will remember it as fondly as I do the GameBoy .

I love the Gameboy. It, along with the N64 and Sega Gamegear, made me become a gamer. I remember owning a copy of Pokemon Red that a friend gave me... he gave me it because it couldnt save e.e XD

: ( I lost my gameboy... And my only game was Power Rangers. I made some bad life choices as a kid...

Good memories were had with my gameboy back in HS, I remember the times we spent in the playground playing Red & Blue with our link cables, battling our lunch hours away with a mixture of trading cards and then figuring out the link cable trick to keep our pokemon while creating a copy for the person we traded with.

Luckily in all my high school years none of my Nintendo handhelds were ever stolen/confiscated so my portable school years were probably some of the best gaming years for me.

happy birthday Gameboy, keep on shining.
