3DS sold massively on media create this week. These charts didn't really forecast did it?

Well, it did, sort of. Shortly before release of the game, there where over 8 different 3DS models in the top 40, changing in pretty quick sucession. This wealth of versions is surely also the reason why the 3DS (and, by some extent, the Vita)  does so badly on the amazon charts: they are splintered across the different versions. As a result each one doesn't get enough to chart, but if you would add them together they probably would be in the top 5 all the time.

Well according to this post from episteme on the COMG thread preorders only officially open saturday, so I guess we'll have a big boost starting then
