Do you think that the Nintendo NX will be backwards compatible and able to play Wii U games?

I highly doubt that the NX will use something like the gamepad as a controller, so that would render a lot of Wii U games unplayable

Since I still own a Wii U, I actually don't mind it not being backwards compatible

What about you?

I don't think it will be, but I have no idea when it comes to predicting what Nintendo are going to do.

If NX is in fact the Wii U successor, no. If it's the 3DS's successor, very possible. They could or could not keep the 3D feature, the pros heavily outweigh the cons of doing so. The 3DS' library is expansive and could continue to grow while the NX takes over.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Actually, the better question is: will the NX be able to play Wii games? By the time the NX comes out, Wii titles would be really simple and won't need power at all compared to what the NX could do, and everyone has Wii controllers (and if not, they could be sold at a really decent profit they are so cheap to make). Nintendo could just emulate Wii titles with the new system. Wii software keeps selling really well, even surpassing some weeks WiiU's.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think it will have some software backwards compatibility (think Xbox -> Xbox 360) or maybe a streaming service like PSNow. 3DS games will definitely be playable, Wii games should be playable (Wii emulation isn't hard), Wii U games - maybe/maybe not. Nintendo could always support the game-pad for previous Wii U owners who don't want multiple systems taking up living room space.

I have a feeling that it will NOT be backwards compatible.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Hopefully.

I hope not.

Iwata made it sound like:

1) theyre dropping the gamepad for a new gimmick (to keep things fresh).

2) theyre not expanding on hardware, its going to be massively differnt design ( = no backwards compatibilty).

Im guessing....... VR glasses? and.... ARM+AMD GPU IP apu (secret sauce: hybrid memory cube system for it)?

hopefully thye go back to standart controllers.

Doubtful. The easy BC now comes from their odd decision to keep in with the PowerPC line of architecture long after that architecture has been abandoned everywhere else. It causes price stress on the system and leaves them out in the cold for portability (except from Xbox 360, interestingly).

Likely we'll just see the Wii U's greatest hits re-released, a la the PS4 and X1 version of "backwards compatibility".
