Forums - Sales Discussion - Do you think the Wii U will get a price cut this year?

$249.99 Mario Maker bundle in September

Most definitely. I think it'll happen late April/early May, leading in to the launch of XCX in Japan, Splatoon in the West, in an effort to 'build momentum' leading to E3, at which point they'll drop a few big things hoping to keep the good times rolling through the historically slow summer...

Bah!

I did think it would, and perhaps it still might. But Nintendo might decide to coast along with the sales it's getting right now if its mind is already on the next gen. If they're not really looking to maximise Wii U sales anymore and are looking to prepare the ground for a much more successful 9th generation then there is basically no point in cutting the price. Better to sell each unit at as high a margin as possible than to cut the price and only sell a few more unit and be less profitable as an end result. If the only people who are going to buy Wii U are just about all true Nintendo fans, then they will buy Wii U at the current price, so why drop the price?

I think Nintendo has written off the Wii U generation. While they will continue to support Wii U through game releases in 2015 and 2016, I think they have diverted a lot of attention onto what's coming next. Let Sony and MS exhaust themselves (well mostly MS) competing for supremacy / relevance for the rest of this generation. Nintendo can put all its effort into a much improved effort with their next hardware.

If Nintendo is really going all fusion-y next gen, then I think they will co-launch a handheld and home console at the same time; and that means a shortened life-cycle for Wii U.

I think in September there should be at least a $50 price cut. Hopefully Xenoblade will also come out by then so I can finally buy a wii u.

Nope. It should get a big one, but won't.

I hope it does wanna play xeno and bayonetta 2 at some point

I think it will, but I wouldn't surprised if it doesn't.

$50. Max because I don't think it will boost sales much at all. Nintendo would probably prefer slightly less sales but more profit.

i dont understand why it didnt get one last year
