Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I the only one hoping that this generation will be very short?

Next Gen...

...can't come soon enough! 45 32.37%

...can stay away for a long time 79 56.83%

Ouya is enough for every game ever. 15 10.79%

Total:139

I hope this is a short generation, because thus far... It's been disappointing to say the least. Nintendo has probably been by far the most impressive so far with what's released and their upcoming lineup. Can't quite say the same about Sony or Microsoft though. 2018 would be a good time to release new hardware.

You do realize that the gaming crash of the 80's is incredibly similar to the situation now right? If a new console is made the close to an old one, a crash IS going to happen.

I think the length of this generation depends on two things. The costs of game development, and sony/microsofts game streaming plans. I can see it holding on a little longer just to stall the increase in game development costs. Streaming is only viable in a few countries however so we will see a next gen of consoles at some point though.

If your reason for wanting new consoles is that you want 1080p60fps, you could always just build a gaming PC which have been ahead of that for a while.

These consoles are kinda going with outdated tech..... last gen was a good excuse, but this one.

If you want something that doesn't struggle with res/framerate, my advice would be get a pc.
the next generation of consoles 4 or 5 years from now are going to be 1080p/60fps at best.

4 years for the Wii U and 6 for the PS4/X1 would be good for me. I'd be disappointed if a successor for each console was released before that.

Nope, not me. I'm waiting to see how the rest of this gen turns out

People still don't grasp the limiting factors of resolution and framerate.

HINT: It ain't hardware.

Second hint:  It's the developer's/publisher's mindset and goals.  You'll never get the resolution and framerates you can achieve as long they can pump up the graphics at the expense of these things.  In other words, no console will ever have all of it's games running at its maximum framerate and resolution.

Am I really the only one who already wants new consoles?

I mean if they introduced a new PS4/X1/WiiU at the end of next year that could play all games 1080p60 I couldn't be happier. They can keep their software but this hardware update can't come soon enough.

So who would buy a new console next year with BC included?

I just want good games. And by good games I mean Zelda Wii U.
