Forums - General Discussion - Has Youtube taken over your viewing habits?

I recently realised that watching people's original content on Youtube has become my primary source for entertainment. I haven't consumed any "traditional" shows in many weeks, and if we were to talk about just watching new "traditional" shows, will have to go back to the start of last year. If I consume any of the made-for-TV stuff, it's typically a repeat of something I've watched before (episodes of Simpsons, Sherlock, etc).

Some of these Youtube shows have such great production values now, you don't feel like you're losing out on "quality" in that sense, and there's so many shows now it's impossible to not have something to your tastes.

I love the gaming shows - JonTron, Total Biscuit, NerdCubed, Boogie, PeanutButterGamer, The Completionist, Continue, Cadicarus, Brutal Moose, ProJared, etc...

Some great sketch channels - Dead Kevin, Mike and Gian

"Magazine shows" - Reason TV, Vice, Young Turks, Adam Vs The Man, FreedomainRadio

Food shows - Furious Pete, L.A Beast.

Just amongst those, we have a back catalogue of quality entertainment to my tastes that could last me a lifetime, and yet they're all pumping out more and more each and every day. The creators of the shows all are very connected to their audiences, producing exactly what the audience wants, and they get to have a job they love producing content for an audience that loves them.

Can watch what I want, where I want, in the resolution and frame rate I want, pause, replay, fast forward and rewind to my heart's content.

What about you? Has Youtube changed your habits? Or do you just use it to watch trailers and music videos? What shows do you like? If you like similar ones to me, and see something I miss, point it out to me. Youtube's "recommended videos" algos are fantastic, but obviously they're never going to point out everything to me.

Around the Network

My entertainment is probably about 45% streaming tv shows, 20% Youtube, 10% streaming films, 10% reading, 5% watching scheduled TV, 5% gaming and 5% other. On youtube I regularly check a few of the science/tech/education channels like SciShow, Crash Course, Veritasium, Vsauce, CGPGrey, minutephysics and some others... some vloggy/comedy stuff, a little gaming and some music (mostly original music though I do sometimes use Youtube to find more popular songs rather than wait the ridiculous amount of time it takes Spotify to start up) Also thanks to someone mentioning it on here I watched RWBY and am waiting for the third series.

I haven't watched Tv in years, Netflix and Youtube only.

YouTube is pretty much how I watch everything these days.

I almost never watch TV, and I only use Netflix occasionally.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I also watch a lot of Youtube. I primarily use TV for sports and even then there's apps like ESPN and free streaming sites when ESPN has archaic 'blackouts'.

I watch a lot of netflix and crunchyroll. I will watch fail vids on youtube once in a while to cheer myself up. Others' misery makes me happy.

Even though I'm not as involved in Youtube as I was in 2007-2010 I still think  it's a pretty nice site with tons of great content providers, specially in the gaming department!
