Forums - Sports Discussion - Messi vs Ronaldo: Race to Ballon d'Or 2015

To me Messi is not the best player in the world for one reason (and this is most times I've watched him) he is lazy at tracking back. He has not defensive power, just gets the ball and scores. Big whoop. The best players are those that work hard, do more than their job. Ronaldo does, Neuer does, Rooney did more last season to try and salvage something for Man U than Messi can dream. Yaya Toure, now there's a great player.

Oh, you are in for a surprise when I post some new stats later tonight.

Hopefully Ronaldo can do it again. But it has to be said these two really bring the best out of eachother

I know right. Everyone talks as if it's a conspiracy and that these 2 win because they're the most marketable or whatever. If it was chosen by FIFA then sure you can make these conspiracy theories, but the votes are made by footballers, coaches and journalists and they are made public for everyone to see. The system isn't perfect and there are many who simply vote for their friends or countrymen. There are also a lot of footballers and coaches who are clueless, but it's no conspiracy.

lets be real, sportsjournalist just a little smarter than games journalists and many football players are so stupid that you have to ask yourself how they can remember the rules. media hype has a lot more effect on not so bright people... and a system that lets everyone see how you voted is BAD not good.

So the world cup voting system where all the votes are secret is better then? Thought not...

secret votes are better than open votes, thats why allmost every voting system is using secret votes. because you cant act freely if you can get jugded for your vote.

Ronaldo doesn't track back either. He did with Mourinho, but not anymore. And if you seriously think that Rooney did more for Man U than Messi is doing for Barcelona then I doubt you watch many Barcelona game. He is Barcelona's man of the match every single game. People on Barca sites started calling the MOTM award "Man Other Than Messi (MOTM)" because he literally wins it everytime and it's redundant to include him in the voting. He is not just Barca's top scorer he is also Barca's top assister. He has by far the most goals by far the most assists by far the most key passes by far the most dribbles. When a player does all that is it really necessary for him to defend?

Scoring goals with an amazing team is not the same as being 1 of only 2 good players all season performing out of your skin to make sure your clubs wins (they didn't Man U did awful last season). I'd like to see Messi at any other team not in Spain because even you made your point, 'Man Other Than Messi'. Barcelona's football is dull to watch and Messi with it. I'm in no doubt about his skill, he is almighty at his skill but I just don't see him as being the best overall player.

Hmm, pie.

That's what you don't get, last few years and even currently Barcelona really isn't a great team. It looks like a great team because we have Messi to bail us out every single game. Barca right now isn't like Barca in Guardiola's time where we had an insanely good midfield that assisted like crazy. Nowadays Messi does everything. He starts and finishes Barca's attack.

If you want to watch Messi outside Barcelona then watch him in Argentina. He's breaking all sorts of records there as well.

Maybe that's why I don't notice, because back then Barcelona were so dull, i stopped caring about the games they were involved in even in Europe, it's the same effect Barcelona had on Spain, sure they could play good football and win but dull is still dull.

I watched Argentina in the world cup, Messi did quite well. Bt that tourament shows the strength of Argentina in general, with or without Messi.

Hmm, pie.

Where's David Luiz? If his 2014 performance was enough to secure him a place in the best players of 2014 team he should be a serious contender if he manages to play regularly with his team.

I actually hope that someone else wins the next Ballon d'Or! It would be quite nice.
