Spartan, lol. They're really trying to push Cortana in their browsers. At least I assume that's going to be one of their major features based on recent news.

Thought it was ok near when windows XP launched, but then it just got painfully slow.

Got bored of watching the loading ring, changed to firefox and have been using that ever since.

Cortana from Halo.  I should have said they were trying to push Halo because the context in general seems to be based around it for MS's new browser.

Now kill Bing please.

Yes kill off the service that is contiusly growing in marketshare...

I'm inclined not to believe that, however they wouldn't kill it off anyway, they'd just rebrand it as 'The Covernant'

Not inclined to believe it? it's a fact. You don't believe facts?

Though minor, in each of the last three months Bing has taken incremental pieces of Google's search market share. Obviously, with about two-thirds of the lucrative search market -- search ads were responsible for $18.4 billion in revenues last year -- overtaking Google, or even playing in the same ballpark, is an ongoing challenge. But Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, former head of the Bing unit, has pledged to bring the money-losing Bing division back to at least break-even in the next two years. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't break out Bing-specific revenues, but most pundits agree it's gaining traction.

worldwide yahoo and bing account for 19% of search marketshare, much higher than it was a few years ago.

Too funny:D

IE sucks ballz. Firefox is the way. Ant Video extention, adblock=perfect internet.

Adblock equals millions of people not making a living. Thank god most don't use it

Millions of people are not making a living by way worse that adblock. Some people are just plain evil. Don't be so fickle. People hack, kill, steal, pirate, and someone decides to gun me down with blocking ads that slow down my already slow PC and install numerous malware+adware. It's not so one sided.

Literally, the only people I know who use IE are my eldery family members and my aunts. My uncle uses Apple so he uses Safari. No young person in my family use IE, just Google Chrome and Firefox. Hotmail is also the worst email on planet earth.

Haha it took a lot of training to ween my mother off it. She loves chrome now though.

I'm still trying to get my aunt away from hotmail to this day. last time she tried to protect her account they charged her $50. I told her I could transfer all of her accounts to google for free. Not only that but gmail warns you if someone is trying to invade your account. At least you got your family members into the weening process. LOL

Yeah Gmail is where it's at. Google really has brought the digital forward a hell of a lot and I for one am thankful.

Marketing move, they had big chanes before and they kept the name Internet Explorer... Upon release IE6 was a very nice broswer, this is why it took so much market share, until Firefox and later Chrome appeared there was a time when Netscape was not really competitive (it was really bloated back then) and IE 6 was both faster and had better standard compatibility... that was between year 2000 and 2005!

So the market share sky rocketed and everybody was happy (except web developpers who had to learn a million little "hacks" to make things work)...

Then Apple made Safari based on web kit, they released the iPhone and Firefox started to be noticed, the developpers wanted to code standard HTML and specify the look of their content using CSS, use Javascript only for behaviour, etc. basically create maintainable sites instead of the old mess they used to make (want to change the color of some text? well... it may be set somewhere in a script, in an HTML argument or another, and sometimes in CSS, sometimes in a couple of those to ensure browser compatibility).

So the rise of the iPhone, a popular mobile platform that has a standard compliant web browser on it and Firefox helped push for this, IE 7/8 came about really soon, when IE8 was released in beta form it was for a few weeks the fastest browser available, it was still less practical the the current version of Firefox or Chrome, but at least it worked with most modeern sites, IE9 tried to pass good JAvascript performance for "HTML 5", but real HTML 5 never worked in IE 9 (transitions, rounded corners, web workers, etc.).

Anyway, now a days using IE 10 or 11 is not the hindrance it was to use IE a few years back, it's still not very practical, doesn't have any nice add ons, but it works with standard HTML and its javascript performance is good... there is really no reason to be upset at them for it.
