I think it could help but production costs are higher for Wii Us than for 3DSs. The 3DS also has a very large install base, which allows software profits from the existing users to absorb any possible production cost spikes due to such limited editions.

However, I do think this would be smart, especially for The Legend of Zelda and the inevitable Metroid titles, both titles that have potential to be the tipping point for a lot of people (Metroid has never reached its market potential imo, largely due to lack of promotions like this). Xenoblade Chronicles X could be a good idea, but not sure. But honestly, just bundling these games at or shortly after release would be a good idea. Having Xenoblade, Zelda, Star Fox, and/or Splatoon bundles on the shelves come holiday would help a lot.

make them all $250 and...

Bets:

I honestly expect the $250 price to happen in the not-too-distant future, perhaps at or near the close of the fiscal year when Nintendo knows they have high profits on lock for the year.

Wii U is in dire need of a price cut. It's been $299 for far too long.

i think a price cut in time for splatoon and yoshi will happen (around march i guess). it would certainly avoid the trap they laid for themselves with no big first-party games (between launch and lego city) and the weak sales that resulted from the software drought in early 2013. then the wii u would hit the impulse buy threshold the wii started at ($250/€230); i think if the wii u had started out cheaper and had a better banner launch title than mario u it would be sitting at 10m+ right now.

...No. They haven't even gone through their initial shipment.

I have no idea why Nintendo isn't doing limited editions. That's what you can get people to do impulse buys. Make some special themed console for your new game and release it with the game.

its like nintendo doesnt like money

(which expains why there isnt any main pokemon game on wii u)

im turning 33 and pokemon is the main reason im getting a 3ds now that my dsi died, its the perfect game to play on lunch at work and in downtime as it doesnt require a whole lot of time in one sitting if you dont want to do it, would love that for my WiiU to be honest.

Wish they would get a little more creative with the limited editions. Seems like they take a standard console or 3ds and put a character decal on it. They don't color theme the plastics or nothing.
