I don't see any reason for a slim anytime soon. PS4 is already tiny in its current form, and I don't really know what benifits a slightly smaller model would make. PS4 slim should come around the time when sales are starting to peak, and when it can help carry the momentum through the tail end of the generation. Personally, I don't see any reason for a slim until late 2017, and a $249.99 price tag.

As for this information, it bodes very well for a price cut this year. Sony will no doubt be reworking the PS4 motherboard this year to reduce cost. That is just par for the course for any device. Hopefully, between this and the possability of a 20nm APU by late this year, Sony will be able to do a price cut to $299.99 by October. If this can happen, and there are no production issues, sales should explode.

I'd say Sept 2016 at the earliest.

A PS4 Slim is not coming anytime soon, there's no need for it. The PS4 is already very slim and good looking + PS4 was in its first year the "fastest selling console of all time".

Isn't the PS4 already slim? They must be going for the PS2 slim slimness.

Yes it would be cheaper to solder 8 chips to one side of a board instead of soldering 16 to 2 sides as is the case now, and typically,  there is cost savings when purchasing higher densities of any storage medium. So they would definitely save both ways.

So yeah its definitely going to happen regardless of whether or not a slim comes out this year. 

The safest bet is a price drop before a slim release. 

I would also expect a 1 TB model of the newer and a 500 GB model for 299.

Nah, we won't see a Slim til next year. Though, this will open the door for a price cut that will still net Sony a good profit. I could see a 1TB PS4 for $399, while they drop the 500GB to $349. Possibly some $299 BF bundles for the holidays.

It doesn't necessarily mean a redesign. Just replacing the 512mb chips with the 1gb ones asap would save Sony a lot of money. Then the redesign could come later.

Yeah looks like they are getting into a position where they can go as low as 299 if needs be. Ps4 is already super slim and sexy. It would be too slim this early in the gen so I imagine 2016 at the earliest but 2017 the likely date. Until then expect the same exterior design but with changes inside making it cheaper and cheaper. And that's all that matters. Ps4 is slim enough now to do 3 or 4 years like that but the price can never be cheap enough in sony's eyes!
