We should really start calling it "current" gen by now.

Congrats to Nintendo. They are and always will be the best.

I dunno about Always.  They weren't in the ps2 gen and the ps4 plus vita has a great chance of outselling the wiiU plus 3ds

That's an odd way of looking at things. Of course Nintendo would win when you compare it like that.

Of course?  The battle is not over until they all stop selling . The battle for helms deep may have been won by Sony but the battle for middle earth has just begun.

How many times do we have to go through this. Businesses are profit-maximizing. Whoever makes the most profit, "wins" in the short-term. Whoever wins in the long-term can't really be predicted, otherwise companies would be able to organize around this long-term prediction and succeed.

Nintendo will likely be more profitable in the end.

Nintendo is probably worth 15BN total. Microsoft probably makes more than that in total profit each year. Nintendo might be the most profitable in terms of games but if you are arguing who will live the longest my money would be on Microsoft.

yeah and thats being generous

I don't know. Nintendo is the older of the two companies. Profit doesn't mean one will live longer. Profit is just the motive. Some companies can make profits greater than 100 years of another company and then they still die within a year. That wasn't what I was saying though.

If Nintendo don't move to mobile pc and or other bigger home consoles they won't be around long. Apple are in a good position if you mean hardware wise.

VGC should probably focus on hardware total on the first page, since that is a more relevant measure of a console makers success. Previously I always thought handhelds and home consoles should be treated seperately, byt why should they? When I see the quality of games that are available on 3DS and Vita, they absolutely match home consoles.

This will, however it might pain me to say, always put MS at last plats though :P.

Why should they? One is ultra cheap and portable... selling to mostly children. The other is upwards of $400.00, sits in the living room and is played mostly by adults. The two couldn't be anymore different.

It's like comparing motorcycles to cars.

ultra cheap? it's like half the price and generally handhelds sell a prettyyyyy good ratio of software for each hardware sold

for the record- Nintendo during the Gamecube era made MORE money from their gaming division than Sony did from their gaming division despite the massive lead the PS2 had over the Gamecube- why? handhelds

they are very relevant when you sell as many as Nintendo does. I mean 3 years after it was released and the 3DS (which isn't even a particular great selling handheld for Nintendo) is matching PS4 sales frequently on weeks

@mountaindewslave the 3DS software is way less in it's 3rd year than the ps4 in it's first year. Even the ps3 software sales are way higher. If the ps2 had online play like the ps3 or ps4 and could charge $50 a year for it, then it would have made more. Sony's current model of huge ps4 sales, ps plus, huge ps3 and ps4 software sales is going to be very profitable. In the ps4 year 3 it's hardware and software sales will dwarf the current 3ds hardware and software sales.
