Forums - Nintendo - Would it be possible for the Wii U to run Zelda U at 60fps?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is 720p and 30 fps with no AA. SM3DW was 720p and no AA as well as almost every other game outside of SSBU. Nintendo will do everything possible to make sure the frame rate is good, but with some of those expanses of open terrain there are bound to be some frame dips. I expect the effects and the textures to be fantastic. Along with the art style it will be a excellent game. Nintendos focus shouldn't be on trying to achieve either 1080p or 60 fps with Zelda.

Do you mean Mario Kart 8? 3D World does have AA (though it's only a basic edge detection method).

I don't get why they would be doing a Zelda at 60fps as of now, since they were always 30fps, if it was because of hardware limitation, it does still exists. The Wii U can't Handle a game at Zelda scope ate 1080p/60fps, just like 3D World/Mario Kart.

If they somehow do the impossible, I could see 900p/30fps, aside from that 720p/30fps.

Funny thing is i prefer Mario Karts no AA over FXAA.
Back to Zelda U:

We do have some normal mapping, tons of fx, all stuff that Wind Waker is missing.

We do have nice lighting fx (remember the clouds?), tons of animated 3D grass, forests and so on.

What's missing right now is high quality gameplay material. But Zelda U in many ways looks much more detailed with far more going on than Wind Waker and other Wii U games.
What we don't really know yet is how much live is in this world. Animals, npc's, enemies...

I say its 720p 60fps.
Nintendo know how to optimise games for their own consoles.

But yes you are right a game like Zelda doesnt really need to be 60fps, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Either way im sure Nintendo will do what is best the for the gameplay.

I don't think that 1080p is possible for Zelda U world (just look all that grass and trees),
most likely will be 720p and 30 locked-fps, but maybe they will surprise us and deliver 720p/60fps.

720p, 60fps with 2xAA would be achievable I think

Given that Windwaker HD was 1080p 30 fps, I assume Zelda U will be 1080p 30 fps. It uses the same cell shading process.

Wind Waker HD isn't locked at 30fps, it have very simple textures and world is mostly flat and don't have details.

possible but i doubt it

It's open world but it isn't exactly process-busting graphics - it's the art style and visuals that people have fallen in love with. 60 for nintendo should be easy.

I think people are overestimating open world. It's just a large area that is capped by whatever the highest view distance is. So pretty much like HyWa already is. There isn't a lot of geometry in a Zelda game and it won't be hugely populated. Add to that low res textures and it's a fairly forgiving game.

Except HW never lets you see huge expansive areas at once, blocking the way with walls and other obstructions, while we've already seen Zelda U stretch for vast distances. ZU is also lightyears ahead of HW in graphical fidelity.

If they can competently scale down the complexity in distances(LOD) this shouldn't be a huge hit to performance. I still believe Wii U is stronger than the PS3 and that one could run AC games which feature huge draw distances with lots of geometry. And as far as world complexity goes AC is miles ahead of Zelda.

So again, if they don't manage to make Zelda 720p60 I will have a good old laugh. Which will then quickly turn into disgust when I have to play it.

You seem to forget AC has sh*tty framerate. And the geometry they use in draw distance is pretty crappy also...

Dude, ACs are technically crappy and unoptimized and you speak of it has if they're some kind of masterpieces. Yes good visuals, but they sacrifice almost everything else... Not speaking about Unity cuz haven't played it yet, but it's fame doesn't bode well for the sake of your argument. And this comes from someone who actually enjoys AC.
