Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's going to be the most over-hyped game this year?

Tagged games:

Yeah, how could I forget about The Division, most definetly that one too.

I also expect Mighty No. 9 to dissapoint plenty as well.

No Man's Sky because Sony and many media outlets are blowing the hype up to ludicrous degrees. I think the game will be great. Unfortunately, I think people are going to have unrealistic expectations.

I would have said Witcher 3 because going open world is really hard, but they delayed it so I think they're probably ok.

The Division is another possibility because it's another pseudo MMO thing and we've all seen how underwhelming those can be.

When I hear "overhyped" I think "the game that will get way more hype than it deserves". But I'm seeing a lot of answers that make it just seem like "the game that will get the most hype." I couldn't tell you either way, but I don't think Zelda fits into either of those categories as a lot of people seem to think. If Zelda was at the top of such a list of hyped games the Wii U wouldn't have a problem.

I think the only way to really quantify hype critically is through the expected metascore of a game before launch. For example, the gaming media is hyping Evolve to the point it feels like it's going to be a GOTY candidate and get at least 90+ metascore. Anything in the low 80s or lower would probably mean the game was overhyped.

The Division.

No Man's Sky, Evolve, and The Division all look set to be mediocre experiences riding on hype.

I thought the game looked like it had EXTREMELY good gameplay mechanics AND THIS is coming from a guy who ABHORS third person shooters in general!

As for No Man's Sky, I don't really care about the game but it COULD become a fraction of what Minecraft is so the hype might actually be well deserved on that game ...

The Order. But I think people are slowly realizing what it actually is and are lowering their expectations.

Of course the Division is always a good candidate, being a Ubisoft game and all.

I know we differ on this, but these days I don't have a lot of faith in Ubisoft.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!

The game before the previews was hyped to death by Sony & greatly by the gaming media. Until very recently when a few gaming outlets made mixed "previews". Proof that the game was super hyped was the massive outcry all over the internet caused by a few "mixed" PREVIEWS!

My opinion: the game is shallow & holds your hand, overdose of quicktime events & cluncky shoot/cover done to death & better before. Just my opinion, I can be wrong as anyone can be to this point since no one has played the full game... but since it's a guessing thread, any guess is as good as another don't you think?

Yes!

It's common sense for a console manufacturer to promote their own games so what you say on that front holds no weight ... The game wasn't hyped at all aside from some Playstation fans since most viewers including the gaming media held no opinion because gameplay was entirely absent. When the gaming press did get their hands on the game it was only met with extreme skepticism. When the gaming press attempted to revisit the game once more with newer sections, much to their surprise thought that the game might have solid mechanics

I don't care about opinions. What I care about is the TRUTH! And I was the one who caught your fallacy ...

Whatever floats your boat kid... What you write is intellectual dishonesty. Hype doesn't come from Sony's fans only, a game is hyped by its makers & the press primarly or do you think that forums in here have more visibility or impact than Sony promoting it at E3 live? As for Sony fans, I don't under what rock you have been living but they were & a lot still are, stocked for this game.

So I maintain, this game was being hyped from the moment it was revealed:

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-order-1886-designed-to-showcase-power-of-the-ps4/1100-6420625/

Some bit, others did not! There was a lot of buzz around the game, buzz that fell a little when people got to play it.

Maybe the hype will die before it's released, when we know more about it, but as for now, I don't see a game that had so much publicity (everyone in here knows perfectly what it is & what has already been shown of it) &  on the other hand that delivers so little, at least from the last previews!

Deal with it, not my fault that you like this game & want to defend it so badly! You'll play it when it's released & I won't!
