Well if they keep the price at 349, theres no reason why they cant win.

So can you also admit the only reason why the ps4 is ahead is because of price, since that is what you are saying about XB1.

Of course price is a factor. If the PS4 ever became 200$, boom, Sony wins, if the Xbox One became 200$, boom, Microsoft wins. Pricing is a part of a consumer's consideration, and the less outright loyalty or interest they have in one particular platform, the stronger these considerations become, especially when doing the 'Well, I could either buy a console, OR a console and x number of games' judgement.

However, you might be forgetting that some of the price advocates (i.e., the 'PS4 is only winning because...') cited price insomuch as advancing the idea that it was the PS4's price ADVANTAGE that led to it pulling ahead in the U.S., back when the Kinect model Xbox One was the only one available and left it a hundred dollars more expensive. However, when June came, and both consoles were equal in price and value (i.e. no clear-cut lead in terms of bang for buck, before the Madden bundle released in August,) the PS4 continued to outsell the Xbox One in the U.S. even IN June, when the Xbox One would have had a sales boost from the initial Kinectless SKU launch.

So, yes, price is indeed a factor, but the same can be said for essentially any product. However, the PS4 was not solely ahead 'because of price,' because you're neglecting the four months it won after price was no longer a consideration, including the months when the Xbox One was, from a value perspective, 'cheaper.' =P And to be fair, there is always a chance that the Xbox One, with its bundles, game releases, etc, would have won November anyway, although obviously by a smaller margin. But since the Xbox One's win just happens to coincide with the same month they dropped the price, they'd need to chalk up at least a couple of victories on even pricing ground with the PS4, in the same way the PS4 had its victories against the Xbox One, to similarly distance itself from 'Because Price' accusations.

Anyway, on topic, assuming Microsoft does have the price advantage 'forever and ever,' while it will definitely help their chances, they've still got challenges ahead, including what's currently looking like a bare boned early to mid 2015 period. Unless the plan is to give away ALL the games they have marketing deals in for free in bundles on each and every release, (and God knows, given how things are going, there's actually a good chance they will,) their lack of exclusive content could let Sony start widening the gap again after the holidays. And since the holidays, while certainly giving Microsoft a chance to narrow the gap considerably, isn't tracking quite well enough to let them close it by the end of the holidays, this might turn into a game of sales leapfrog. =P

I'm really irritated by this "just because they can afford it" excuse for Microsoft's victory. At the end of the day Microsoft is a business like any other and they have the primary goal of making money, they aren't going to just aim for victory to please their fanboys, they will aim to make money regardless, so i doubt they will never let price parity be achieved, and i doubt they will outsell ps4 in the US ever

I could not agree more!! You are EXACTLY right. I've seen a few people respond to my own comments with stuff like, "well MS will just buy this gen they don't care if they lose money they have endless supply" ... UMMM How dense are these people?

How do you think they got to the point they are at? By being extremely stingy with their money. That's how ALL corporations must be and ARE. Especially multi-billion dollar corporations. Yes they CAN afford to do a crazy deal like this for a few months during the Holidays, they CAN afford to take this loss and they are going to do it. For a few months. It has been good press, they have had good numbers on consoles and software, and people are talking about the One more than they have since launch. BUT you better bet they DO care A LOT about their profit margins and they could give a sh*t less about fanboys who think MS doesn't care about money lost. They do in a big way. They made this move to ultimately increase their profit in the long run. Which I think they might have done. They don't make decisions like this on a whim and they definitely don't do it to please fanboys. They are a corporation who's ONLY worry is making money. People seem to be very ignorant to this obvious fact. Glad you pointed it out.

Even if it does the number of PS4's selling in Japan, Europe, and rest of the world will be greatly in Sony's advantage. XB1 might win the US but PS4 will win worldwide

When they were at the same price the Ps4 was still ahead every month even in june.

So no it's not only about the the price. If it was only the price the Ps4 wouldn't be ahead when the price is the same fo both consoles.

Haven't you heard?? US = The World now.

Well I've been told that if you can't win the holiday season I the United States then the rest of the year doesn't matter. And yes, I've read someone comment exactly that in regards to console sales. That means the execs over at Microsoft won't care if they're console sells less than its competition from January to October because the winner of November and December wins all. Also, the poster who made such an argument says that anyone who posts a rebuttal shouldn't mention worldwide sales because we're only talking about NPD.

But does worldwide matter? Apparently it doesn't matter to some. Otherwise Xbox winning a single month in its home country wouldn't be such cause for celebration among those some.
