I don't understand how it can be played without permadeath. The entire challenge lies within not letting anyone die. But I'm glad your enjoying it.

So your saying the game is easy without permadeath?? Because Games like Disgaea and FF Tactics are challenging without the need to permakill your characters.

Have you never played a Fire Emblem game? That's what the point is. You want to protect everyone and leave no man behind.

I have over 280 hours in this game, and I still havent used many characters (Ricken, Severa, Gaius, Cynthia)

The game is great.
Its biggest problems in my opinin are:

-The spotpass chapters are fan service that destroy the story, basically, every important person who died is alive, and not only that, you can fuck them.

-Dark Mages are very overpowered, they can tank anything with Nosferatu

-If you buy downloadable content you can grind, and if you can grind it stops being a strategy rpg, and it becomes just an rpg. On the internet what you see most of the time is fans of the game who grind, use eugenics, and reclass characters a lot in order to create super overpowered perfect op characters.
But if you don't grind the game becomes very different. Without grinding Sully is a better mother for Lucina than Sumia because without grinding you will not be able to teach galeforce to a Sully-Lucina.

-There should be more map variety, and different objectives.

The good thing about Awakening, is that most of the bad things are optional.
In my case I only play in hard classic without grinding.

I still think it was the best game of 2013 and the best game on the 3DS. With regards to Smash Bros, I think Marth and Robin are ok as representing the franchise, one represents lords, and the other represents the player's self insert character.

The challenge of Fire Emblem is not losing any character.
Fire Emblem is the kind of game in which you are playing a difficult mission, 40 minutes in, you lose a character, and you reset and load the save file to replay the mission again.
Even the creators do that, most of the players reset when one of the characters they chose die.
Winning is not difficult, winning without casualties should be quite hard.

Fire Emblem is great, and much better than Metroid and Zelda.

Yep, truly a great game.

Pretty much, hated losing characters . I imagine most people who play Fire Emblem play it like that. (Trying to keep all your characters alive the whole game)

I feel like I should get in on this Xenosaga HD avatar chain.

It was my first Fire Emblem game too and I also fell in love! It's in the top 5 of 3DS games for sure. Nice cut scenes, great cast of characters, compelling story, tons of content and it had some very interesting (first time playing a tactical game like this) and fun gameplay.

Also loved how the story differed slightly whether or not you picked the girl or boy and loved how challenging it could be when set on hard difficulty. It's not often Nintendo makes a hard portable game so it was refreshing to play. Everyone with a 3DS should atleast try this game out even if your not sure you would be into it, it's worth a try!

I'm glad you like it. Lucina is good.

Also, Fire Emblem 7 is on the eshop as of today.

Yeah I hear that it is one of the best, but no baby mode. I need to practice a lot with this one.

That's why you should've played on permadeath mode. Not out of any sense of pride or anything, but because the game is VERY DIFFERENT with permadeath, and that's how the rest of the franchise runs. Without permadeath your strategy could change drastically, and then you learn how to play the series "wrong" and can't really adapt to the others.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
