I had set up a teamspeak server as well but I tried skype and thought it would be easier for everyone to use especially since I wouldn't have my server up 24/7 and skype works REALLY well. Personally Skype doesn't take up too much bandwidth for me, I was playing some battalion wars online at the same time as using skype, it's also XBL quality voice chat I was talking to fazz it's pretty good.

@ Ben
I don't know any online voice chat service that does that, unless you want to use MSN, Vent, teamspeak, and skype all are on constantly while you talk.

 Teampeak has that option.

Vent isn't always on either. I should think any voice chat program would have the option to press a hotkey to talk instead of having the voice constantly on, or did you not understand my question? Hell, I'll just download Skype and find out.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Ugh, I downloaded Skype, it's not bad, but there is NO push-to-talk option. WTF.

What kind of person wants to sit, wearing a headset, when the voice is CONSTANTLY ON.

It's like playing videogames with a friend in another state, and holding our phones to our ears the whole time, hearing each other breathe.  I only want audio to go through when I have something to say, I'd rather not hear all the unnecessary, excess noise.  Definitely not good for gaming.

I'm fine with Teamspeak or Vent.

Oh! Sweet, both of you taught me something I didn't know, I played around with all the programs I guess I just didn't look hard enough through all of the options, anyway thanks for clearing that up for me, sorry for the misinformation I should have said as far as I know in my post I guess.

Yeah, a uniform chat system would be great for tournaments, but I definitely vote against Skype for gaming. We'll have to figure out Teamspeak I think. Of course I'm fine with just AIM as well.  For most tournament play, my Wii will be playing right next to my computer.

I thought of skype cause of the Sakurai interview, it also seems VERY good and easy to use, I guess skype can be good for calling people up and for friends to talk, if we get a teamspeak server up or something could you post it with a guide ben?

Here is a tutorial how to connect to the Online Brawl Community's teamspeak, there is really no need to set up and pay money for your own server.

If you choose to do so, thats fine.

Also about Wireless headsets. I honestly don't know what is a good one and what is a bad one, I've always used wired headsets. http://www.tomshardware.com would probably have some reviews if you are interested.

Just set up the hotkey options under "Options", and make a mute button.

There are rules against spamming. If someone is spamming a mic we usually ask them to stop, if its a problem we can kick or ban.

So if we don't have the chat function enabled we will not be able to participate in the tourney, right?
