Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon can be so much more.

OP just one question, did you play the new pokemon?

I always imagined that a good pokemon console game would be one with a battle system similar to final fantasy dissidia.
Everything about the Pokemon core would be the same; catching pokemon, training them, leveling them up, choosing their moves, etc. etc. etc.
But. Instead of a turn based battle system, you instead battle in an arena style area in real time, controlling the pokemon. You still have up to six pokemon, and switch them out and stuff, just it would be more of a fighting game.

It would never happen, though. Nintendo actually can't force Gamefreak to do anything, and Gamefreak has no desire to do anything else with Pokemon.

You forgot to mention that the game needs to be rendered in 4k at 60 frames per second and include day 1 DLC that gives you early access to the exp. share and a higher probability of encountering shiny Pokémon. Not to mention later releases that give you access to that one island/mountain/cave/city that supposedly holds many rare Pokémon and items that cannot be found elsewhere.

Lots of wasted potential indeed.

Why does any suggestions to a 17 year old series all of a sudden mean that it has to encoporate all the trappings of current gen games?

Nintendo has to cover the expenses required to create a game of that scope somehow. These aren't just any suggestions.

Post-apocaliptic scenario. Kill half of those. The rest are enslaved and at the disposition of very few, who seemedly use them to subyugate what's little left of society. Arise an anti-hero main character who doesn't have the need to find a disctintion between good and evil.

Canonically, you can do everything you want. The above scenario would make me purchase a Pokemon game.

The above senario would make literally no one else purchase that Pokemon game.

Why not? It worked for Advance Wars.

Or it could be 720 + art design. Hell they could use B&W as a base and just add collision detection. The only difficult thing would be with animations, but there already managed to do partially do that in the base game anyway.

See what I mean? Open World Pokemon suddenly = Elder Scrolls

Yeah, or online connected Pokemon suddenly = MMO. I feel you pain.

Yeah, and the title of that game is Advance Wars. The title of Pokemon is Pokemon. People buy it for the Pokemon. People have favorites. You don't just kill off have of the core part of a franchise. That'll piss everyone off.

God no, that would only soil Pokémon further. I agree some critical things need to change, but one of them is not the genre. An MMO would be horrendous. Game Freak must increase the difficulty and try a little harder with story, but no, no, no to what you've listed.

I know it's your opinion and I recognize that you do have a great fondness and passion for this, but I just can't.

I never said it would be an MMO and I never said it would replace the core series and I definitely never said that gamefreak would work on it.

i totally agree. It seems to get more bland over time. The only thing they have going good is the remakes.
