Are they running on the same TV/settings? Anyone who has used a proper calibration disk to calibrate their own TV properly can easily see the contrast and brightness SETTINGS on the Xbox 1 version are better. Either that or Rockstar went out of their way to give the PS4 version an entirely difference color palette for no reason :P

This is the usual for comparisons between X1 and PS4. It has nothing to do with Rockstar.

My comment on Rockstar giving the PS4 version a totally different color palette was tongue in cheek :P

Here's one of many:

The PS5 Exists.

This is not crushed blacks. It's contrast

Hummmmm...

I guessed the crushed blacks shows when the image has too much contrast.

Ohhh wait... it is.

The ignorance you're spreading lately just makes you less and less credible

Btw, here is some watergate (Xbone having more water-effects confirmed):

This pics shows the blacks are crushed too.

It is a know issue with the internal RGB used by MS... it is not related to upscaler.

Then why aren't there crushed blacks in the Digital Foundry video? Right, the video uses different settings for both consoles. Either way, the water effect is clearly missing in the PS4 version.

lol

So make some study first.

Crushed Black are when the image have too much contrast that affect the black levels... I can for example get any image and make it to show crushed black just changing the contrast in my TV.

The issue with Xbone is that you can't remove the crushed blacks... even if you lower the constrat it won't show the "normal" image.

It is not a opition... the RGB game is fucked since begining... the black are intentionally crushed to try to give the impression or more detail... it is more apparent in upcalled images but it is on native images too.

BTW you can make test in your TV before say anymore is ignorant.

gameplay x1 was pretty solid

Yes, but R* had to remove detail to accormplish that on the XB1 version.

We don't know why and don't know by how much until further details by DF. But by now it's grass that's missing. Btw, it's not removed - they just added less to the last gen version in comparison to PS4.

Did you perchance run the calibration disk through the XBox One?

I've done the same thing with an external player and the ps3 and ps4 match it perfectly. The XB1 has close to a gamma 2.2 shift in output just like the 360. (It's actually an approximation of the sRGB gamma curve developed by MS and HP for computer monitors in the 90's) The ps4 doesn't apply a gamma shift to the output. Meaning a linear test pattern gradient results in a straight line on ps4 with a waveform analasys tool, while xbox changes it to a very slight exponential curve pushing blacks closer together, spacing out whites and shifting the average down.

TLDR you should not use the same tv settings for xb1 and ps4. And direct screen captures need to be 'fixed' to properly compare on the same monitor.

Devs can try to fix the resulting black crush on XB1 by tweaking their graphics engine, they should not use those settings for ps4 ofcourse.

Yeap... the waves are statics and not dynamics and the time of the day is the same lol
