I edited above.  this whole "its a flop if it doesnt sell millions in the first week" needs to stop.  Most games do not work like that.

I agree with that. But there is a huge difference between games like Lords of the Fallen and Bound by Flame, or Hellblade which expressly stated that they break even at 300K, and games that are made by larger studios, published by mega publishers, and whose promotion budget is higher than complete costs of those 3 games combined.

So like these?

First Week Sales

InFamous - 260k
LittleBigPlanet - 110k
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - 30k
Resistance - 14k
Heavy Rain - 25k
Resistance 2 - 240k

Lifetime Total

InFamous - 2.81
LittleBigPlanet - 5.53m
Uncharted Drake's Fortune - 4.79m
Resistance - 4.26m
Heavy Rain - 2.86m
Resistance 2 -2.42m

And this is an incredibly small list of looking for less than 5 minutes.  This list will grow majorly if i continue looking.  So according to some people, all these games were flops.  Thats something i expect people have little knowledge on the subject to say

Not like those, because for some reason you just picked all Sony games, and the games that had a staggered release across territories making their first week total much lower for your purposes.

But whatever, you think that 220K is good, I think it's a flop based on what similar games are doing at this point in time, not what some cherry picked games were doing in 2006 and 2007.

First Week

Kinect Sports 180k
Forza 3 - 210k
Mass Effect - 370k
Halo Wars - 150k
PGR4 - 50k
Dead Rising - 210k
Viva Pinata - 8k

Lifetime

Kinect Sports - 5.89m
Forza 3 - 5.42m
Mass Effect - 2.85m
Halo Wars 2.45m
PGR4 - 2.01m
Dead Rising - 2.04m
Viva Pinata - 1.6m

Or maybe you remember the thread last year calling Mario 3D World a flop? Lets revisit that for a moment

First Week

Mario 3D World - 270k

Lifetime

Mario 3D World - 2.33m

The reason I only listed sony's exclusives is because that is what i looked at first.  As i said, it was an incredibly small list off 5 minutes of research.  Youre more than welcome to research it yourself

To get the White Xbox One is not the only way to get it is to buy the Sunset Bundle? 230k does not seem to good with a game that launched with an exclusive colour bundle.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1# Official Playstation Vita Thread! Come in and join!!!

For me SO floppage or not floppage comes down to how many white bundles were sold. Let's not kid ourselves that people bought the SO bundle for the game. They bought it for the white console, that's the reason is sold out on Amazon so phreakin' fast. If the white bundle represents a large proportion of the sales, then with all it's marketing and promotion, and it being "one of the big games for Xb one for Holiday 2014", the first week result is underwhelming when you look at people who actually bought the game because they wanted the game and not because they wanted a white console.

It's a pretty huge deal that a game like Sunset Overdrive got its very own special edition console. So this of course raised significant expectations, especially that MS are expecting big things from the game in terms of its hardware moving potential. If we wanna do a contemporary comparison with a new IP getting it's own special edition console we need look no further than Destiny. And we all know how Destiny sold in its first week. Sure Bungie has a great rep on Xbox, but they are as much an unknown quantity on PS as Insomniac is on Xbox. Still it is fair to expecty a game like Destiny from a Developer like Bungie to do better than Sunset Overdrive from Insomiac. But 10 times better? And it being a multiplat game too?
What's obvious to me is that whatever strategy was involved in grabbing Insomniac exclusivity from the console wars perspective it did not really pay off at least in terms of launch week sales. Longer term I expect SO to get respectable sales. But I also don't expect it to be a break out success like Uncharted. Europe is dead for Xb one, which means it's gonna be a wasteland for pretty much all Xb one exclusive new IP. MS is going to be 90% reliant on the US market to give their exclusive games a look of sales respectability, which is why they are going all out with that market.

Wow! That was fast to 300,000!

500,000 is easily on lock by end of year!

It's still 7 weeks.

I just don't see a lot of people interested in sunset overdrive so not a lot of people will buy the game even if it's bundle people will buy Call of duty or Assassin creed bundle.
As my expectations of how the game will do was low sunset overdrive is doing just ok not bad

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

New data for us and uk are up. Lazy right now don't fell like making a thread
