Forums - General Discussion - So 4K is happening, viseo 50" only $1000.

Will consoles be able to achieve 4K 120fps next gen?

Yeah, Nintendo, Sony, and... 1 25.00%

Hellz no, buy a gaming pc... 1 25.00%

Yep, it's official. 4K 120hz is out and it isn't out of reach expensive, which means 4K 120fps should be the new standard. We should see that in 9th gen gaming right? I personally don't think we will when we are still struggling to get native 1080p locked 60fps. I may just need to build a gaming PC in the next few years.

The problem with 4k is how games are made. The next gen consoles by todays standards could have enough power to run games in 4k@60fps. But the problem is is that games ten will be using way more resources than games today. Better physics, better ai, better textures, better effects....etc. Those all have a way of bringing everything right back down again.

This is why I believe that sony/ms/nintendo will go around 4k in a very different way. They would find a way to cheat. Have devs render their games at 1080p native but output at 4k

Vizeo is pretty awesome. Great tech for low prices. I could buy one but I'm happy with my current setup. I mean how good is the TV without the content to support it? Maybe a little later on....

Which basically means more gens of upscaling, and misleading console reveal E3's that lie and tell us the system is capable of running games in that resolution (which fighting games MAY be able to achieve).

Same here, for now. But even when it becomes so cheap and the tech gets a few years old we are still going to be gaming in 1080p 60fps (if that). I just found it funny.

well good luck finding next gen graphic games on PC that utilize 4k on 120 fps, well u can play Star citizen but the full games will be release 2 years from now. But even Ubisoft Assassins Creed is need an enthusiast card to play with minimum setting i bet a quad SLI GTX titan would able play games like Assassin Creed U on 4k and 120 fps Lol

Yup. Though I don't honestly think that is a bad thing. I think to much focus is put on resolution, while in truth its just one part of the whole IQ mix. Is 1080p enough? I think it is. Will 1080p upscaled to 4k be enough? Thats the question.

So here is the dilema. Have hardware (CPU?GPU/dedicated Scaler chip) that will allow devs natively build all theie games in 1080p@60fps with every post processing effect you can think of dialed to 11 and using a really good hardware scaling chip that is dedicated to upscaling the final image to 4k, end up with something that looks much better than 1080p but is running beautifully and at 60fps. Or, allow devs make games in native 4k, and strugle with the balancing act that they are dealing with today and have most games "try" and maintain 30fps and  markedly reduced post processing and toned down detail across the board.

I am just happy that by the time next gen comes around 4k will really have become mainstream with sets costing as little as $300

You could probably scratch that one out. AI seems to see the least improvement from gen to gen. XD

So true. And its such a wasted opportunity. I mean if they invest in really great AI, the could very well make an entire game where you fight off just 20 ppl.
