The problem with 4k is how games are made. The next gen consoles by todays standards could have enough power to run games in 4k@60fps. But the problem is is that games ten will be using way more resources than games today. Better physics, better ai, better textures, better effects....etc. Those all have a way of bringing everything right back down again.

This is why I believe that sony/ms/nintendo will go around 4k in a very different way. They would find a way to cheat. Have devs render their games at 1080p native but output at 4k

Which basically means more gens of upscaling, and misleading console reveal E3's that lie and tell us the system is capable of running games in that resolution (which fighting games MAY be able to achieve).

Yup. Though I don't honestly think that is a bad thing. I think to much focus is put on resolution, while in truth its just one part of the whole IQ mix. Is 1080p enough? I think it is. Will 1080p upscaled to 4k be enough? Thats the question.

So here is the dilema. Have hardware (CPU?GPU/dedicated Scaler chip) that will allow devs natively build all theie games in 1080p@60fps with every post processing effect you can think of dialed to 11 and using a really good hardware scaling chip that is dedicated to upscaling the final image to 4k, end up with something that looks much better than 1080p but is running beautifully and at 60fps. Or, allow devs make games in native 4k, and strugle with the balancing act that they are dealing with today and have most games "try" and maintain 30fps and  markedly reduced post processing and toned down detail across the board.

I am just happy that by the time next gen comes around 4k will really have become mainstream with sets costing as little as $300
