Extreme left? Obama? Really?

The Democrats lost so badly because they tried to run as republicans (though they really didn't lose any worse than most incumbents during midterms). They spent all of there time trying to distance themselves from Obama instead of telling people why they should be in office.

Democrats lost because they were babies during the elections, like always.

Well poverty rates have been going up regardless of race over the past 40 years.  The last president that actually cared about the poor was LBJ and he left office on January 20, 1969 and he was a democrat.  To find the last republican president that cared about the poor we have to go back even further because that would be Teddy Rosevelt and he left office on March the 4th 1909.

Presidents dont make laws or budgets congress does. The dems have controlled congress for most of the last 40-60 years

Well they last passed laws helping the poor uder LBJ more then 40 years ago.  Since then pretty much all laws that passed favor the wealthy.

Its weird that so much americans are against healthcare as its really a great system that makes sure everyone can afford high medical costs. You pay for others but that shouldnt be such a big deal cause you are securing yourself and your children for the future.

Our government is too big and there are too many peopl for such  a centralized and easily government abused system. if i can't trust the government not to single me out because of my views with extra scrutiny from the IRS how can i trust it with my health? Again i think people forget that there are over 300 million people in the US. These programs should be on a city, county, or state level. Don't confuse american dislike of the federal government with its dislike of all of these programs. There are rampant problems with massive beauracry because of so much intervention at the federal level. States need to take these rights back.

on the flip side, there are massive problems with having 50, 100, 3000 different systems depending on what state or metro area our county you live in. The IRS is a straw man argument. If you think it's bad for people to have their helthcare tied to their employment, how well do you think the system will work if people are tied to one city county or state? Each one different in some way or another, different rates co pays or deductibles, different eligabiliy, and each subject to it's own abuse or such strict criteria to stop abuse that peoples healthcare suffers. I don't know who would benefit from that. Now if there was a federal option competing with the privates I'd be all for it. The federal option would help keep the prices of the privates down, while the privates would for the federal to stay efficient.

checks and balances. don't pretend the 80s didn't happen. Not to mention the democrats and republicans of 40 to 60 years ago are very different than those of today.  There used to me a lot more conservative democrats (DIxicrats) and more liberal or moderate republicans (I've heard Rockefellar or New England Republicans)

Policies aren't in a vacume. There are so many other factors to take into account of how well they did or didn't do than one number. not only that though, you also can't just messure succes by if things improved or not. Some things can be there to help limit the damage. You can't just say that if you do one thing and things went bad you should have done the opposite. It might just mean the policies weren't strong enough.

If you really think that todays republican party's policies are better for the black community or the disenfranchised in general, I really can't understand why.

I lost faith in Obama a long time ago.  I'm glad for some new blood in Washington and in my home state as well.

LOL yeah, that and the idea of moving back to the center in the OP. (that would be LEFT of Obama)
don't forget, Citizens untined, The SCOTUS strinking down part of the voting rights act and less from this election but still and issure in general in the house, very gerymandred districs in several states, Between those 3 and what you mentioned the democrats were never going to do well in this election. Though I think had they tried to actuall sell there accomplishments the losses won't be so bad. If democratice voters would just remember to show up in the off years.

What exactly is the center? Oh yeah you guys still subscribe to the out-dated left-right paradigm (are we in revolutionary France?)

Fun fact: Did you know in the 19th century the left-wing proposed free-markets and the right-wing was for a state/mercantilist/protectionist/corporatist economies of various types?

Yeah those are true. Though I wouldn't consider Obama right of center, just certainly more of a centrist than even the democrats who elected him thought he would be. Actually, the fact that anything got done at all is a miracle considering what congress has been like (I've grown fond of the term "scorched earth republicans")

Anyways...Warren 2016?

Totally agree. I don't like the Republican Party at all, but the Democrats deserved to lose because they were being total wimps.
