I actually think a fair amount of domination by one side helps gamers.

If X1 and PS4 were roughly equal with stable sales, would Microsoft think it necessary to drop to $349 with games in one year? Discounting Kinect as most people have, the price of getting an X1 with a game has gone from $560+tax to $350+tax, or over $200.

If X1 loses the holidays, and drops like a stone in 2015 once more, then we can look forward to maybe a $199 X1 by holiday 2015, which is awesome for gamers. And Sony will have to respond of course, they can't sit at $399 forever, the more pressure they put on pricing means Sony has to do something to keep going decently as a leader.

Whilst I see what you're saying, its a short term benefit. 

I am talking about things like the PS4 having a functional online service. That wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Microsoft's success with the Xbox 360.

I am talking about things like Microsoft's more generous Games with Gold, that wouldn't have happened were it not for the success of PS+.

We have never seen so much advancement in features in such a brief window (the last decade) in consoles. Not all of them have been gaming specific I will grant you. But they have been a product of competition.

The PS4 owning this generaiton in a ridiclous manner would be bad for everyone, arguably PS fans more than anyone. Its so counterintuative to barrack for that for any reason other than owning Sony stock.

If it was anything like this, then no its entirely unnecessary.

And this thread is hardly what I would describe as well behaved. Even if it hasn't fallen to the depths of that appalling 'switched my PS4 for an Xbox One' thread over the weekend!

What you say makes sense, but I think barring someone completely exiting the arena, the competition still exists. I can't remember any dominant consoles that failed to have awesome gaming experiences, even if I personally didn't prefer all of them.

It wasn't necessary, and several people took it wrong and there was seriously bad behaviour there (quite worst than here). But anyway none of the threads were necessary, but being an jest answer to Seeces thread I see a point and a fun side. But I have nothing agaisnt closing both and detracting the points from the OP posters.

I've said this a thousand times. Price doesn't matter. No one buys a console they don't want simply because it's cheaper. They buy a console they want because they want it. The Xbone could sell for $199.99 and it wouldn't matter if people didn't want it or wanted the PS4/Wii-U more.

MS needs to focus on things that really make a difference. They need to get some smart guys in there who know the core gaming market and start turning things around from there. A price cut isn't going to do much.

Well... I would permaban Kitler and ban all mods for 1 day (or more) for skipping work. And then see what they will do when they come back.

Have you entered the bathsuit competition? Maybe they were polite or they have someone like dlewis that can make love to even a doorknob but he was busy today so no one would take you.
