Forums - Sony Discussion - Potential security issue on PSN (again)

No matter how secure you think you are, theres holes, it's just a matter of someone taking the time to find them.

See the post above this one for confirmation of this.

100% spot on, its like layers of swiss cheese, for every hole in the layer there is other pats to cover up a whole list of problems, but then there are new a new or another hole in the security to contend with. than another patch that one and than yo have another that may be open up.

I wouldn't exactly call this news. Everyone knows how unstable and unsecure that network is. Its a shame really. This is just another reason why gamers are choosing Xbox One. With the reliability and security of Xbox live, to the amazing exclusives, its easy to see why Xbox One is THE place to game this holiday season. Thank you Microsoft. We are humbled.

I knew a thread like this would give us awsome comments like this, this is the reason i wake up and go to vgchartz every day !!!

OT: OMG , AGAIN? Will we get 5 or 6 games AGAIN too? Because that would be awsome, cant wait to get some free games AGAIN.

Nah, not the same kind of exploit as Tachi iterated already.

I don't have to think of it, I am responsible for IT security and infrastructure myself.

Difference in these holes is: is it software I use and someone else wrote so I get a patch soon OR did I do wrong with my own software/implementation/configuration. It currently seems that it's not the software Sony is using but their design/implementation that is vulnerable to attacks.

And yet it's an off the shelf module responsible, since it's outdated.

So it's even both in this case.

If you want to make it about blaming Sony at any cost then sure.

Praise Microsoft....for making Windows and IE so filled with holes and exploits, that most people focus on that :D

Not directly related but a fun point non the less.

Windows XP is now so atrociously exploited that the combined number of compromised machines on the planet ensure that a windows XP machine on a fresh install will contract a virus or malware within 10 seconds of the network being connected, with no input or actions taken by the user to achieve this.

There's just that many malware/spyware/virus ridden machines constantly throwing out their junky tentacles in to the web that WinXP without a good firewall is like waving a bagel at a flock of hungry seaguls.

Dude... I know it is cool to say something like that but I hope you realize how wrong this is... Stop saying random non-sense stuffs like that to try to prove your point. Maybe you read something like that on a forum or somewhere else but it does not make it real. And I hope you do not really know computers, network and how a virus or malware spread and what weakness is used to "spread" to make that kind of comment. (and even if you read that on a random forum, at least provide source...)

By the way, Windows being the most used operating system, there is nothing sensationnal about the fact that it will get more virus, malwares etc... than any other operating system. Mac OS reprensents what? Like 4% of the marketshare and they are starting to get some nasty virus/malwares... There is NO system without security holes or less secure in general. It is simply a matter of which one if the most popular so people will spend WAY more time trying to find those holes and completly ignore the other ones.

Only exception to that I would say is Android vs iOS (which is way safer), but it is not because Android/Google sucks it is more a design choice to give more flexibility to the OS.

So what you're saying is this thread shouldn't have been made, because the PS4 is the most popular next-gen right now?  :D

Why at any cost? Who else is to blame here?

lmao, its like trying to blame the working man for not having millions of $$$ in security and you keep bulldozing the security he does have tgan say..hey look over there the security is top notch all the while wearing a security tshirt saying hey i can secure this building more ; but its going to cost you every thing you have..Hey is that not worth it?

lmao

I have no idea what you are talking about... The thread is about PSN being hacked again... Not the PS4 and its popularity.

And my point was about the non-sense this guy posted about Windows XP being infected 10 seconds after a fresh installation while connected to any network.

You should know what I'm talking about, you pointed out that Windows being the most popular OS, naturally leads to the most attempts at finding exploits.  Which is absolutely true, because the bulk of personal data would be stored therein.  The easy parallel is that the Ps4 is currently the market leader in next-gen, therefore will have more scrutiny :D
