It's a niche title.
VGC preorders are random.

I'm hoping the implication here isn't that digital sales would been sizeable enough to turn the game from a flop into a success if retail sales were low.

I agree with you that it is a niche title, but it's certainly not being treated as such by Microsoft.  Niche titles don't get major conference placement across multiple years, hardware bundles and TV advertising.

OT: I stopped following VGC pre-orders here a long time ago.

Well the entire gaming community has moved on to PS4 (many former 360 owners) so that would explain some.

This game has zero mass market appeal and hardcore appeal so it is going to sell terribly.

Also, did anyone expect this to push consoles and sell well?

Expecting the game to flop commercially.

Wrong game at the wrong time on the wrong console

Nah, right game at the right time on the wrong console. It's early in the gen where people are starved for games. It looks great and I would have picked it up if it were on PS4. 

I disagree about the time.  A new colourful IP going against a new gen only Assassins Creed and one week before a new CoD is terrible timing.  

It always seems people do not trust vgc when they do not like the numbers. Especially this gen, people seem to not trust the very website the consistently come to for info more this gen then last. It is kind of perplexing to me.

It's a shame the game probably won't do so well, especially since MS has been trying hard to hype the game up. Looks interesting and fun to play.
