Not sure if this has been asked before but the thought popped into my head last night.

To me the survival horror genre is a very niche genre with majority of the last true games being relegated to small-to-medium releases on PC, but with the release of Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, and the new Silent Hill due to come out as well, the genre may be coming back.

Then I got to thinking, which will sell more? Evil Within is a new IP but from a well known director, while Alien: Isolation is based on a very popular franchise. I would have included the new Silent Hill but the other two games released very close to each other so they are essentially competing for top survival horror these Holidays.

I personally believe Alien: Isolation will sell more soley because it is from an established franchise and pays homeage to the first movie more so than any of the others.

So I ask you, which do you feel will sell more THIS YEAR, and which will sell more LIFE TIME?

Alien, because I'm pretty sure a lot more people know the Alien franchise more than Shinji Mikami.

This year, Aliens: Isolation, but The Evil Within will outsell it lifetime.

It's definitely going to be close but I think Aliens Isolation is at an advantage here because it's a more renowned IP among the mass market and Shinji Mikami's more recently developed games didn't garner a whole lot of attention so I think the developers behind The Evil Within may have some quality issues which could translate to customers finding more pet peeves in the game ...

Hmmm tough call:

Alien Isolation is the first good game (in recent memory) from an established entertainment franchise. But its more of a Survival Horror purist's game.

Evil Within is made by one of the gaming's most famous names. Although its quite hardcore and difficult its still more accessible. RE 4 fans would like to try it out

Ill go with Evil Within

But the winners are the Genre fans.

Hopefully Visceral games would come up with something soon as well (loved Dead Space :p)

I'm thinking Alien: Isolation because its an established IP.

Colonial Marines managed to sell over a million in spite of its critical reception.
