Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U, the only Nintendo home console without a must have Mario platformer?

I have been a Nintendo fan since I started playing video games, and I have had all Nintendo consoles (even the NES I got after the SNES), and on all of them without exception I bought a Mario platformer who was the flagship game of the console.

I have the Wii U since Mario Kart release, but still have no Mario platform game on it.

1) NSMBWii U doesn't seem like a fresh game, after getting the one on DS and the one on Wii, I feel I am done with the NSMB serie for a while. they are very good games but very similar also.

2) Mario 3D World is the follow up of 3D Land on 3DS. Also 3D Land was a well done and featured clever use of 3D on 3DS, it is one of my least favourite 3DS games and the Wii U version look very underwhelming compared to the absolute masterpieces we had on Wii (Galaxy 1 and 2, who are the absolute reference of 3D platforming). Like low scale, uninspired and not even making full use of the analog stick.

There are currently no other Mario platformer games announced and seeing 3D World poor sales (for a Mario 3D games), it's doubtful we will see a full brand new 3D , high budget , Mario experience like we had with Mario 64, Sunshine and the two Galaxy on Wii U.

It would be sad if the Wii U ended in the only Nintendo home console without a great 3D Mario platformer. I really want to play a new 3D platformer masterpiece by Nintendo.

Apparently there is one already in Development and it will be big.

So about 2016.......or maybe even 2015 if they are fast. but 3D World is very good though....

Never heard about it? It's a rumor? (by who?)

I'm not certain if Nintendo view Mario 3d world as a true 3D Mario title like Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. If they do, chances are that we won't see another true 3D Mario title on the Wii U given how badly it is selling. The Wii go two full blown 3D Mario games(Galaxy I & II) whilst the N64 and the Gamecube only received one each(Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, respectively). In my opinion this was due to the low sales of the N64 and Gamecube, it simply was not worth the man-power to make another full fledged 3D Mario. This was not the case with the Wii which was selling insanely at the time and had a very large user base. Probably smarter to dedicate those developers to finishing up the Wii U incarnation of Zelda...

I would really love to see a full blown 3D Mario on the Wii U hardware. Galaxy was great and made up for Sunshine's disappointments. I don't think they should focus on the gamepad second screen gimmick though, it's about as innovative as the Six-axis function on the Dual Shock 3. Just focus on polished visuals, inventive worlds and that magical Mario gameplay!

I read that in early 2014/ holiday 2013 on one of IGN's articles.

The Mario and Zelda games aren't developped by the same EAD team. Also, Mario Galaxy was in developpment well before the release of the Wii, so before the success of this console.

My guess is that Nintendo saw the great sales of 3D Land and thought wrongly that it was what the players wanted. So it ended into the quick cash-in that 3D world was. But at the end it sold very poorly for a 3D mario games and Wii U sales suffered of this.

A true 3D Mario would sell better, for sure. But I don't think we will see one.

I want... Super Mario Halloween season on WiiU. What do ya think?

3D World is a must have 3D mario platformer in my opinion

Oh look, Lucas-Rio is shitting on 3D World....again.

Edit: I don´t have anything else to contribute to the topic. I think NSMBU is the best 2D Mario game since SMW and 3D World, while not quite on the same level as SMG2, is fantastic on it´s own.

3D world isn't the Mario game I wanted but it's still a must have game.
