Forums - Nintendo Discussion - OPINION: Nintendo needs to change their home console brand

If their consoles had "Nintendo xxxxxx" on the name, it would help too.

UltraNES? MaxNES? HyperNES? And just keep going...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I'm glad you guys don't work for Nintendo, these ideas are awful.

This is just one of the reasons. I agree, and they could just name their "New Nintendo 3ds" to the Nintendo 3ds 2. Rolls off the tongue better.

Or if you want to go the name route still, just name it " Nintendo 3DS Advance". I remember reading that suggestion on someones post here.

This is just one of many problems Nintendo needs to address anyway.

The whole Wii name needs to die a horrible death. Their next console should be called the Mega Nintendo Entertainment System or something to generate hype.

I posted a thread about this months ago and got only a few posters who agreed.

When you name your consoles different things, you're creating the perception that they are unrelated. For example, the Corvette and the Silverado are both Chevrolet products but they have little to do with one another. This can lead to a bit of an identity problem in that the identity of each new console needs to be established each generation. If that fails then the console has the chance to drift into a limbo where the common consumer isn't really sure what to make of it. All they know is that it's made by Nintendo.

You have to assume that that the average potential customer is relatively uninformed, which means that it is YOUR job to inform them.

Sony avoids this by sticking to a numbered Playstation brand format. What is the PS4? Simple, it's the newest version of a Playstation home console. Using the car analogy, it's the newest model of the Corvette. Easy to understand.

IF Nintendo wants to stick with this naming convention then they have to MAKE TRIPLE DOG SURE that they set the image they want in the minds of the consumer--of course, that image also has to be something that people want.

I propose that the next Nintendo console be named the Nintendo Super Light Photon Canon (SLPC). This communicates that the console is bad-ass. Third-party publishers will flock, as will males of all ages. Have a Mario at launch, sure, if you want, but pin your launch campaign on something with space armor and lots of beam weapons. Bam, Nintendo joins the rest of the world.

The manipulation of perception is an important factor in the success of a new console.

While I agree with what ur getting at, I do think their decisions to change their console brand name from GC to the wii was a good thing cause GC did terribly and they should change their name once again for their console next generation too cause the wiiU is doing terribly. But yea, they need to figure out an awesome name and just evolve the brand off of that!

Although, even till this day, my parents think all my consoles are Nintendos including the ones that are not lolll (Like ps3, psp and so on)

I believe what Nintendo ought to do is cater and market toward the retro crowd by perhaps simply using the name "Nintendo Entertainment System" or "Super Nintendo Entertainment System II"

Nintendo 7.

Simple and clear.

As is literally every other idea I've seen from people who think they can "fix/save" Nintendo. This is why you don't listen to "fans": they have no clue what they're saying.

The problem with this logic is the fact that, unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo's new consoles are always drastically different from previous ones in terms of control and gameplay. The only thing really changing much (and one could argue it's not changing much anymore) in Playstation and Xbox consoles from the previous generation is graphics. Yea sure they sometimes come up with more innovative things but they die and then give up on them. Ps4 is fitting because its just a graphically superior version of ps3 which was the same compared to ps2 and ps1. The Wii Had motion controls, the wii u has touchscreen, and the next one will introduce something new as well.
