Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why isn't Nintendo playing a stronger Virtual Console card?

VC on WiiU. We've got NES, SNES and GBA games. Some very very good ones (Earthbound yay!), but not very strong overall in terms of numbers and variety of systems.

Yet it could be so much more. N64 games, where are they? Gamecube games. Even Wii games would be nice to have, those better Wii titles are getting hard to find in stores. DS games, Brain Age was a test but a few months on there's nothing further. And that's just Nintendo systems, what about others? VC on the Wii was a lot better, strong from the get go, and it included a lot more systems.

Does Nintendo think Virtual Console titles are taking away from indie games on the eshop? Is that even the case? The idea of a legal emulator was groundbreaking. On the WiiU, with it's playing games on the gamepad it's even better. So why isn't Nintendo taking the Virtual Console further but instead is taking it backwards?

Thank you for reading this, I now want to hear your voice. :)

Two reasons: Nintendo sucks at release scheduling. And getting the games to work 100% requires work. GC games are so unbelievably a pain in the ass to work on emulation.

Gamecube VC games are something that need to happen right now

It wouldn't be nearly as difficult on Nintendo's hardware since the WIi U uses components that are evolved versions of the CG ones. Or if you prefer, they're the same family of hardware components. Unlike what you use on PC to emulate the GC.

Cause its Nintendo... Some of the most obvious decisions go over their heads (For better or for worse)

Isn't the WiiU's Wii mode a carbon copy of the Wii? I always thought the lack of Gamecube compatibility was because the WiiU can't read GC's mini discs.

It's probably the same reason why we haven't been getting Pokemon generations on the 3DS eShop for years. The reason? No idea. But if it is supposedly difficult to create GC games for the VC, then Nintendo should find some way to work around it. It's not like Nintendo needs money, but if they did release a Pokemon game on the eShop, that's easy money right there.

I just want to understand why they're not taking initiative into the successful software in the past that led up to who they are today. Again, we are still happy for all the N64 games, GBA, NES, etc.. that we have so far..

Trust that Nintendo still has a few tricks up their sleeves after Super Smash Bros. 4.

Couldn't the Wii U natively emulate the Gamecube like it emulates the Wii?

there is a hack for vwii, with this hack you can play gc games with any hid gamepad and a emulated memory card. I don't think it would be that hard for nintendo to finally release gc vc ...

I don't think they would do a good job emulating the gamecube on wii u .. heck even the SNES game earthbound has slowdown which really bugs me.

I think it is down to the 3rd parties to put their warez up on virtual console.  The wii had a fantastic selection of  market/vc games.
