Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bungie: The Destiny Post-Game Carnage Report - Facts and Figures!

Vena said:

So basically... this thread was dug up to confirm that Destiny has no meaningful statistics to show after its launch! And so that people could argue some more over nothing!

Yay!

?

This thread was the starts one week after launch and played said it was bad numbers or just PR... now Bungie announced 3.2 million unique players per day showing it is not just PR... the game is a huge success.

First play the dam Raid and after come back to talk with me.

And yes people are playing this game because it is fun and Raid is one of the best coop experience already created for console gaming.

Nah its still PR, as I've said in the other thread, they are hiding their numbers behind averages. The other thread is just more spin, the Halo numbers were especially eggregious of the fact because it was comparing mismatched install bases, and Halo 3/Reach did not require online play and were, quite literally, untrackable if offline.

Never trust averages without medians. Never trust medians without averages.

Its a bit sad, though, because Bungie actually gave a good number way back in the day on Halo 3 when they said that even 1 year later, it had a daily million+ users. Not averages. Not buillshit. Just good old hard numbers. Anyone who gives nothing but an average, is someone with nothing of worth to say. That's the basis of PR.

Hidding?

Avg. user per day is a metric used since the Halo 2... they even have this list in the own site for the Halo 3... they just are that opened to stats.

If you have a average of 3.2 million unique players per day that means one day it have over that... that means the sales are huge... there is no spin in this number lol

So grumpy. I started a raid, got bored, more of the same.

Just because you feel its a great experience doesn't mean that's what everybody wants from Destiny. I feel the population is going to dwindle unless some real noteworthy content is added.

I'm still waiting for story to be added. But that probably won't happen until Destiny 2.

The opposite can be said about you.

And what you expect/wait won't happen... it will grow the way it is today because the gamer community is approving it and we want more.

Nah, averages are bullshit in this case. Back in the days of Halo 3, years after launch, averages per day are much more reasonable and they even had concrete numbers. Averages around something like launch when skewed data is an absolute given, then averages are complete horseshit. Like I said, this is textbook: https://www.ma.utexas.edu/users/mks/statmistakes/skeweddistributions.html Its a good read on why medians and averages are both necessary data, and an average will hide a skewed distribution.

Destiny, like any game, has a guaranteed skewed distribution around its launch.

Average of 3.2 million per day doesn't mean much in the long run if you have a hyper dense distribution around launch with, let's say, two weeks of >6 million and then two weeks of <1 million, still an average of ~3 million. This is why average is bullshit around launch.

Avg. after 30 days.

With 30 days you need 15 million day 1 to have less than 1 million at Day 30.

More bigger the timeframe more the avg. is accurate.

The gamer community? No, the dwindling Destiny community. That community will get more raids.

The gamer community is moving on. Next stop, Halo:MCC... CoD:AW... AC:Unity... Far Cry 4... etc... choo choo!!!
