Forums - Politics Discussion - Lazy Americans.....‘We’re a Movement Now': Fast Food Workers Strike in 150 Cities (edit) OP is poor, don't act like I am being all high and mighty!

They went on strike so they could take a break from their hard work of standing and flipping burgers, taking out trash and talking over an intercom. Oh, and lets not forget the horrible task of pressing buttons, looking at the menu, swiping cards, and talking to humans.

Clearly you've never worked fast food for a living. That shit is modern slavery. Sweat shop work. It's totally disgusting and these people have every right to be angry.

These people don't want something for nothing. They want something for being treated like absolute TRASH. Fast food work is the most disguting display of modern slavery in this country. My finace is about to graduate college, but she had to work her way through it by working fast food for years. She would come home, every night, beaten to the point where she couldn't even MOVE. She would get harrassed, talked down to and demeaned every single night. Her boss treated her with no respect and for all of that..after FOUR YEARS of hard work, she was making under $8.00 an hour.

Are you KIDDING me? Wanting something for NOTHING? You've got it backwards. These people BLEED for these companies and get paid pennies on the dollar. Absolute GARBAGE

They, as human beings, deserve better.

You should probably read his previous posts before posting what you just did. He basically told us his entire life story. I would honestly delete this comment before he has a chance to respond.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

There's a problem in this country when it pays to be either incredibly poor and leech off of free services on purpose, or being more wealthy. I know of a lot of people who work long days, and can barely make ends meet or put food on the table. While fast food jobs aren't perfect, wages do need to rise somewhat because the cost of living is becoming way to high without pay increases.

They are aiming to high they should ask for something more reasonable like 10$/h, Plenty of jobs that require training and even schooling start or doesn't pay 15$/h

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

That how negotiations work...When this is all said and done it will likely be at $10-$11. They start high so they can negotiate down so both parties feel like they got something.

Doesn't matter. Fast food is modern slavery. If people want to claim that they can handle being treated that way, then that's their right to be treated that way. But that doesn't change the fact that it is, in fact, modern slavery.

It's legalized cotton picking.

What the fuck do you mean it doesn't matter? You accused him of something that isn't true and then when you realized you were wrong, it suddenly doesn't matter? You can have an opinion about the fast food industry, that's fine. But what you can't do is accuse people of something that isn't true when the information presented directly in front of you proves you incorrect.

By the way, I've worked 3 fast food jobs. I'm in college now, but you simply can't assume things about people you don't know.

Except it isn't slavery. They have the choice to work elsewhere that pays more, but unfortunately they don't have the interpersonal skills to obtain those positions (hence they flip burgers.) That means they must work on bettering themselves so that their labor is more valuable. I work part time at walmart as a cashier starting at a wage of 8.4/hr while attending full time classes. And honestly, the job entails much more responsibilty than cooking fast food. I know very well that I am selling my labor for a $375 pay check every two weeks. That is not slavery. I benefit and walmart benefits. I can end the contract anytime I want, and so can  Walmart. The same is true for these fast food workers.

I have worked a lot of different jobs in my life, and fast food was among the worst. Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, not everyone get's to be a 'manager' no matter how hard they work. It's hard to live off of ~$240 a week, let alone pay for schooling (which may land you in a minimum wage job anyways).
