Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next generation could have waited.

I agree with your sentiments on the Wii. I didn't like it at all, worst Nintendo console ever made in my opinion.

I disagree with waiting longer for next gen, I wanted it sooner. It's still early in the consoles life cycle as well. I believe we will be seeing much better looking games as time goes on.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. If only it wasn't for all those publishers saying that they couldn't " innoviate" without more powerfull hardware. The release dates for the Ps4/ Xbox one should have been somewhere along the lines of fall 2015, that's the final holiday season were games are going to be mostly multiplatform with ps3 and Xbox 360.

If the consoles came out in 2015 then there would be cross gen games til 2016-2017...

Highly doubt it, of course cross gen games would have existed but not up to the rate which they exist now. Even though the last console generation was a long one, I disagree that it was long overdue. When a console is dire need of a successor, ounce that succesor is released it will quickly be forgotten ( Gamecube, Wii, OG Xbox, Wii U). The true seventh gen consoles have by far not been forgotten, atleast not at the rate of the consoles mentioned.

No, not really. Not only is the PS4 mirroring PS3 and PS2, but it is also paramount that it releases with the One.

The 360s paltry exclusive support and lifespan meant MS was poised to release a successor. Sony couldn't let that happen and MS responded in kind.

In essence a reverse Cold War, Mutually Assured Releases.

As for the Wii U, Nintendo needed it because the Wii was declining and as a smaller company it needs to release more frequently. Not to mention the cheap low powered Wii made a ton of Money, so Nintendo would naturally try it again.

Also By Feb 2013 the hardware was more or less finalized, the gains from further development

Cross gen games and upports would still have happened. If the consoles would have been delayed a year or two the development for these consoles would have been delayed for the same time and the outcome would have been the same.

We'd still have gotten cross-gen games and remasters and continuations of the same franchises.

The only reason Cross Gen is bigger in this generation is because last gen had the most even market share

Had the either the PS3 or 360 flopped. Cross gen would be a lot more infrequent if it happened at all. After PS3 release, PS2 was the only prev gen getting games.

In fall 2015 it won't be expensive to build a 1080 60fps console

No such thing as a 1080p60 console.  PS4 could have every game be 1080p60, but the developers want pretty games.

I mean the games coming out now could've been 1080p 60fps on those consoles

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

The wii had a huge marketshare but do you see cross-gen games coming out of it. No, developers stood up with it in 2010,2011 releasing yearly cod's even though the system was outdated by that time, because that is what they had. Ounce the wii u was released no cross-gen games came out for it. Therefore the 360 and ps3 were far from being long overdue. The ps2 was the only prev gen console having games still getiing released on it since it was not overdue and could do alot more, the other two consoles were though.

I somewhat agree (the boost in power) but I think cross - gen games would of been around even if PS4/XOne launched in 2015.

Either you guys are too young to remember, or you have really short memories. There were cross gen games for gens 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7 as well. Even when gaming went from 8 bit to 16 bit, there were cross gen games.

Even if the X1 and Ps4 waited another year, you'd still see cross gen games and there would still be games that struggle to reach 60fps/1080p.

You really think publishers are going to give up on a 160m install base right off the bat? And the generation just started, you can't possibly expect developers to fully utilise the new hardware.
