Forums - Gaming Discussion - In what situation would the gaming industry be now if the deal between sony and nintendo had worked out?

In what state would the console industry be now if back in 1991 Nintendo had not double crossed Sony and the super famicon would have released with an in-built Cd-Drive? Would Sony have ever released their own console? Would Microsoft have ever joined the console buisness? Would Sega still be alive? Would sony as a company even be alive as of now ?

In my opinion I think that Sega would still be alive since it would have had a larger market share during the fifth generation of consoles and when the dreamcast would have been released it would have not been overshadowed by the upcoming release of the Ps2. I also think that Microsoft would have never joined the console buisness since the dreamcast would have not been a failure and so they would have just continued their partnership with Sega, and finally I think that the console buisness without Sony would have been a much smaller market when compared to today.

What do you guys think?

I think Sega would of always died. They sabotaged their consoles so many times with consumers. Releasing addon crap after addon. And the Sega Saturn release out of nowhere. They were doing too much with stuff. And never giving it a chance to improve and drop cost.

It is really impossible to say, but an interesting thing to think about, nonetheless.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I think the partnership would fall through eventually. Even if sucessful, i think both would think that after it they could do better by themselves aka they would try to get all the money for themselves.

Sony has arguably brought more to the console gaming industry than any other company. BUT, I have to give credit where credit is due. Without Nintendo, there would be no gaming industry without the launch of their original Nintendo System. So thank you Nintendo for screwing over Sony back in 1991 and going with Pioneer instead.

Yep, that would have possibly happeaned I mean the partnership was not succesful mainly since thay did not agree on how much money each would make.

Nintendo would have like 80% of the market right now if that deal had gone through amended.

But imagine if the deal were Microsoft wanted to make the OS for the PS2 had gone through. What would've happened then? Well of course the obvious, the OG Xbox wouldn't have been made, but what else?
