Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Prediction thread: How much will all the 3DS revisions combined sell?

Tagged games:

Yesterday we had the announcement of a brand new 3DS revisision known as the New Nintendo 3DS. This will obviously somewhat increase the life time of the 3DS brand on a whole and lead to somewhat increased sales especially since, we know that to Japanese people a revision is almost a new console and so it will sell tons over there. So as the title states predict how much will all 3DS revisions combined sell, and as a side question will the sales of smash bros. be affected due to people waiting untill the New Nintendo 3DS comes out, so they won't need to buy a peripheral to use amibos?

102 Million.

Amiibo will take a big part in that.

It should give the 3DS a big boost in Japan this year because of the 3DS MH4 and Smash Bros. Bundles.
No clue how much more though. :s

I think the 3DS is still probably a brand on decline, but this will slow the loss a bit.

Nintendo's 12 million forecast for the fiscal year makes a lot more sense now though, because sales were down across the board, so a revision had to be coming in order to hit those numbers.

amiibo is the wildcard, it could be a game changer, perhaps more for the 3DS than Wii U, since a 3DS is so much cheaper and has a larger instal base.

So, we have roughly 45 million 3DS units sold through to consumers, huh?

Well, then: We can expect at least 5 million current 3DS owners to convert to a New 3DS.
Add that to a baseline of 10 million/year, and you'll get roughly 80 million sold lifetime.

Less than 100 million, but more than 75 million! I can't really say for sure, but I'm expecting it to be closer to 75 million though.. :S

I agree amiibos could be a game changer especially since they are cheaper than skylanders figures and are therefore a better alternative.
