Brilliant idea, but streaming, ew.

? the only way to make that immediate is with streaming - otherwise the friend would have to dl/install the game (up to 50GB) like the original owner

It's better than the alternative for people like me: nothing. At least they could offer both options or only require partial downloads like "play as you download" works.

Your internet connection is good enough for "play as you download" but not good enough for streaming?

Either way, you are taking away the convenient part of the service from both SONY and the consumers. This feature is great because of its instantaneity.

Play as you download is not dependent on your internet speed. It just means if a game is say, 20 gigs, you can start playing part if it (first few missions, multiplayer, separate modes) once you download a certain amount like maybe 6 gigs. Asmore downloads it becomes available. Speed has nothing to do with it.

No one is reading what I'm saying. I didn't say it shouldn't utilize streaming but just maybe offer and option to do it either way. Everyone keeps saying "it's great because it's instantaneous" but probably like PS Now then you probably need 5 Mbs per second speed in order to even use it. So for a chunk of people it's not "convenient" it's not even available.

This is exactly what streaming is.

For fuck sake.....

No it is not. That is not how it works on PS4. "Play as you download" the advertised feature on Playstation 4 has NOTHING to do with your Internet speed.

Why do I feel like I'm just slamming my head repeadidly into a brick wall?

No, like demo access. You realize they can do stuff like that right? That's what EA is doing with their service, full game trial for 2 hours. Download the file but then I have to auhorize him to play it with those 10 trial keys they announced. Is it really that radical an idea?

This is MUCH better than that, which is obviously why Sony turned EA down. Invite a friend, DONE.

You're missing my point. It's not better for me, it's non-existent for me because my internet is not good enough. Obviously in a perfect world where everyone has some amazing internet this would be better.

It's unfortunate that you will miss out, but streaming also cuts down on Piracy as you can't just download the game and use custom firmware.  It'd kind of a necessary evil that many would prefer as it is more convenient to just jump in.  That sucks that it won't work for you though.

Imagine what the server load would be like if each time someone wanted to share a game, the other player would  download it. ALL OF IT. This would cripple the PS network. It's inconvenient to SONY.

I get your frustration but your proposed solution is impractical.

what! this is awesome! i thought this was going to be a 60 minute every 24 hour or 48 hours. and even then i thought it was a sweet deal!

I hate the selective memory of the media.

"First announced earlier this week". I could puke. That thing was announced last year February.

This could be interesting. Would be a good way to get some of those stupid co-op / multiplayer trophies.

I like it.

and cause of this Achievement/Trophy whores have taken a whole new meaning.

I didn't say that. I was thinking more like once per person but then the authorization to play it for 60 minutes could be a small 100 kb file. You could even stream footage over twitch to the owner. Same basic thing but much lower speed required.

Edit: come to think of it they could also make it where if you liked the game you could pay to unlock the whole thing and you would already have it downloaded.
