I don't like this thing here so I don't want it anywhere near me. The only solution is to ban the thing

When did I say they should be banned? This is more just trying to get people to stop spamming those threads everytime they don't agree with the original one.

When did I say you said that? I was posting my thoughts

Don't even pretend you didn't imply it.

Ah well. To each his own.

Why not? Pretending can be fun

Yeaa, I get the point of those threads and they shouldn't stop being made completely cause response/mirror/parody threads are pretty funny the first few times but the issue is that after the first few times, it just gets annoying... Like, I remember one time, there was this argument or something that FFXV can run on a wiiU and then someone made a "mirror" thread that it can run on a ps2 and had a picture of shadow of the colossus which was pretty funny but like 6 threads later, it ended on that FFXV can run on a calculator or some nonsense and it kinda ran dry by that point loll

Imo, after the first few times, if people want to still make a response thread, they should come out with something more original than another mirror thread

The tricky thing is how to deal with them.

I agree that a blanket ban (on almost any kind of thread) stiffles discussion and the opportunity for sometimes amusing retorts. That said, sometimes they just get tired, are a clear attempt at trolling, are duplicating a thread that shouldn't have been made in the first place, or a combination of all of these.

So, do we simply leave it to Mod-discretion to lock them as we see fit, leaving Mods more open to accusations of bias? Do we ban them altogether? Is there some middle-way you can suggest?

Happy to hear ideas!

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Pointing out that threads you don't agree with "add nothing to the discussion" heavily suggests that you want them gone and the only way they'll be gone is they are banned.

If the original got locked, the copy gets locked. Other than that it's fair game in my opinion. It's like some people want forums to be completely black, white and boring.

I honestly think that most should be left alone, but if the thread is offers nothing other than pointing fun at the original, then it should probably be locked. People can make fun of a thread in the original thread, if they feel so inclined.

No way. Need to be judged in thread by thread basis...

Some are meant as humour. Not trolling. As starcraft suggested, should be at their discretion.

I honestly think it's okay. Most of the time we ourselves know when the joke is not funny anymore.

I say locking the thread and a warning if it's overdone, or simply not funny. The "3D World is better than 3D World" was not funny, specially since there was already a parody of the original.
And if you think I'm being too harsh... there's a reason I'll never be/want to be a Mod :P

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
