With a $125 million dollar budget I wouldn't say that Ninja Turtles has overperformed.  And I was right about what I said earlier Guardians is now trending ahead of Tranformers 4 not by much but the daily lead will increase soon enough since it will have better legs.

C'mon this is one realistic scenario of overperforming by a movie with that much budget and most critics not being friendly. 65 mn first weekend is pretty good. The third weekend should kinda seal the fate for GOTG, but I still don't think the movie was as enticing as Cap 2's "Hail Hydra" effect . So smaller legs and will surely finish behind Cap 2.

Nope it will finish ahead of Captain America 2 it has very good legs and it further outperforms Transformers 4 with Mondays numbers.  The only thing that is somewhat lacking are its overseas numbers but they will kick in with the sequel.  260+ is doable which really isn't that much last year there where seven movies that did that and there where already two movies that made 300+ by early August Despical Me 2 and Iron Man 3.

Can we start a bet on this?

What kinda bet 250 million is pretty much guaranteed now after 12 days its over three million ahead of Tranformers 4 and 17 million ahead of Captain America 2.  Captain America 2 made close to 260 million due to its strong legs and right now Guardians has much better legs since it ahead by over 17 million dollars.

Also I think that you are forgetting that there is nothing being released that is on the same level of Guardians until Interstellar opens on November the 7th.  The rest of August, the whole month of September and October is very lackluster when it comes to good movies being released which will mean that Guardias will have pretty good legs for at least 60 more days and it will be easily over 200 million by Friday and it making another 60 million for the rest of its theatrical run which should be more then 60 more days is not really too much to ask.

Box Office Mojo has the Expendables 3 finishing behind Guardians and TMNT another reason it will easily make over 260 million dollars if it was a bit more kid frindly I would predict a much higher numbers and I could see it having Frozen type of legs.

Guardians did very well on Monday its tracking ahead of Captain America 2 now so $250 million plus is possible domestically as long as its legs stay decent.

The decline could come in a little steep if turtles, step -up dance show and the holocaust movie steal the thunder. I'd say somewhere around 230 would be the best bet.

It will be over 230 million by Friday and should be ahead of Tranformers 4 by next Sunday or a couple of days after that, 260+ is pretty much guranteed now.  Getting very close to 300 million is a possibility.

let it go!

I'm planning on seeing it a 4th time Tuesday. Tuesdays are 1/2 off tickets at my theater, so I've been making use of that every Tuesday since it's been out, taking different groups of friends.

Well it doesn't have Frozen type of legs but still its legs are very good best legs of any movie from 2014 so far.

The best it can have now is in the 260-270s not 300mn...but for that it should strictly continue the same weekly trend as Captain America managed with its long legs.

EDIT: forgot to mention SIN CITY 2 and IF I STAY opening this week could make an impact in the significant drop.
