So if this took off, and in 5-10 years the majority of games stream games without buying them, will future sales stats and comparisons be a thing of the past? Will the 10+ millions selling games no longer happen? Will the rental stats class as sales stats?

Software will be primarily service and not a product in less than 10 years.

Internet gaming fans dont drive the market, the larger market drives the market.

Its all about subscription services and repeat income.  The gaming world will be the better for it too, it will be far more stable.

The big question in the US is the current battle over net neutrality and how monopolistic cable companies like Comcast and Time Warner want to be able to legally alter your internet experience.  Their big targets are heavy users, those that share files or use streaming services.  If this comes to pass we could see internet speeds reduced by throttling or costs increased making the barrier for entry greater and the experience less enticing.

As long as the prices are reasonable this could be a great service.

$8 for 30 days is fine for a rental. Plenty of time to finish most games

Want to see what these subs are because $2 for 4 hours is absurd. You get a game for 6x the amout of time if you go to a Redbox kiosk.

Consumers with half a brain are going to ignore the $4 hour option. Its just an option, nobody has to use it.

4hr option is a no go for me at any price, because I never play games that much at once. A week or two at a decent price is ok, I'd pay $9.99 to play through the whole game. But unless subscription is $99 or under per year, I won't even touch this service.

My internet connection has been shady lately. Cuts off every 30 mins or so and reconnects, so pass. PS+ is awesome, but this is not. Won't show support by trying.

How do you get into the PS Now. I open my PS4 and go to playstation store, but I don't see PS Now mentioned anywhere??

You have to give Sony your bank account and routing numbers. Then give them permission to deduct any sum they wish. Afterwards you will need to sign away your firstborn. If you choose to keep your firstborn, then you must forfeit your soul to Sony.

True, but if people do actually make use of it things might get worse instead of better.

I pray you are right and people ignore it.

By the way, you said $8 for a month? I did not watch the video. Is that in there? If so then that price is actually quite good.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

$7.99 actually and it depends on the game.   cheaper games (the $15 downloadables) cost less.

not idea why everyone is so hung up on the 4 hour option as if that was the only option...

Because people like me were too lazy to watch the video first and in the end get to look foolish for everyones enjoyment.

The pricing is a huge mistake. It was terrible on the closed beta also. If they don't go to a fair sub system this service is going to fail quicker than it took to develop it. I wonder what percentage of people paid what they were asking in the second stage of closed beta? I bet it was less than 10% of userbase.  I will say this though.  Ever since the beginning of closed beta I experienced no lag whatsoever using WIFI.  The service has functioned perfectly for me.

Rentals will count as sales and just be a different distribution model.

If this ever becomes the norm though, we can all kiss the gaming industry as we know it good buy. There will be no need for a playstation, nintendo or xbox when all you need to play your games is a $100 stream box. Chances are, those stream boxes can be integrated into cable boxes and you pay for the service as seperately.

For all we know we may never see a PS5/XB1/Wii3. Scary.
