Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: EA Access Doesn't "Represent Good Value To The PlayStation Gamer"

How fantastic, EA already fucked up their relationship with Nintendo and now they are doing the same with Sony

For now we only have a statement from Sony regarding EA, not the other way round. And Sony judged their offering as not a good value. Even so bad that they didn't even offer it to their customers.

Now who is fucking the relationship between Sony and EA?

Why wouldn't they let their customers decide what is of value and what isn't? Sounds like they are bitter.

Following EA’s announcement of the company’s new subscription program, Access, we were curious about it being tied only to Xbox One. We reached out to Sony for clarification, and it seems like PlayStation 4 owners shouldn’t hold their breath for the program.

“We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect,” a Sony representative told us via email. “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.” *

EA's Access program costs $5 per month or $30 per year and offers discounts to members, free (while membership is active) catalog titles, and pre-release access to game trials up to five days in advance. The program is in beta now, with Xbox One preview members getting first access yesterday evening. FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 kick off the program as free-with-membership titles.

While Sony could certainly change its mind down the line, we don’t expect that to happen any time soon. For more on EA Access, check out yesterday’s coverage.

Our Take
While EA Access might not be coming to PS4, I wouldn’t necessarily count out the publisher’s games in PS Plus. There is still value for EA there, especially as those free-with-membership games have great potential to move the needle for DLC that has long since dropped down the sales chart.

This also doesn't mean that Sony can't change its mind later. If demand is great enough and value increases, EA Access could migrate over down the road. For now though, this is a clear statement that PS4 players shouldn't hold their breath for the program.

*1:Well this shows that Xbox one owners will need gold to use EA access. So I agree with sony here paying over 80 dollars per year has no value, I mean how many games can one play in a year.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

EA Access doesn't represent good value to the PlayStation gamer because Sony says so... M'kay!

Wrong:

"To your inference in the last paragraph that an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required for full use, I wanted to clarify: Any Xbox One gamer can join EA Access and take advantage of the benefits of membership. In order to connect to multiplayer gameplay on the Xbox One platform you will need a subscription to Xbox Gold."

Only for multiplayer which seems logical.

No it doesn't. Sony is saying they don't want to charge the people who are already used to a subscriptions another subscription. You do not need Gold for EA Access.

Lmao, no. It shows that gamers want to play online games.

EA Access is a huge bonus to XBone owners imo.

If I could pay $30 per year just for the new Fifa and a few other games then I'd take that in a heartbeat. It sucks that EA is skipping the PS4 with this, but I think it'll come somewhere down the line.

I think you misunderstand how EA acces works. You don't get the new games as part of the package. What you get is a backlog of EA games and discounts on every new purchase you make, be it games, dlc or even in game currency.

I am happy sony skipped on this, cause this is EA being EA. I give them points for trying, but all this really does is further fragment and already fragmented market. So what if activision decideds to do this, then 2K, then ubisoft. Before you know it we have gamers paying for upwards of 7 different subscriptions services. Why not just make whatever initiative hey are trying to do be part of PS+ and work out a deal with sony instead.

If you are a gamer that will only really buy EA games then fine, I just don't see how this is pro consumer at the end of the day.

Sony might be right. It's not really a great value now. If they bring it over in a year or two, with more games available it would be a great value.

All depending on EA and what they decide to offer.

nice pr spin
"ea acces is exclusive deal with ms, so we cant tell u its a good value"

just for fifa 14 in europe, this would be a very very good deal for ps4 customers
that game was the best selling in europe (and is still selling well). and half of the xbox audience got it for free as online token. bet every ps4 would love that, too
