SNES vs Genesis was pretty intense, especially with all of SEGA's ads essentially attacking Nintendo.

I never understood the fanboys/fangirls who have console loyalty and go to war for companies as if they're apart of the company themselves. It's like damn its just games,trying to show your superiority over someone else because you think this piece of plastic is better than this other piece of plastic is so dumb. It's like these people are trying hard to validate something so meaningless,as if they're to make up for their own lack of inferiority in general o.o

Exactly. Most gamers do in fact think this way. The corporate slaves are a minority (thankfully!)

I completely agree. There are far more important things to do in life than attack/defend conglomorations of silicon and plastic.

Why the hell are people so volatile about the console wars in today's day and age.   I personally think that the internet has a huge part in this and people seem to fly off their rocker when it come to expressing themselves online because there are no real consequences.  I know when I was a kid and if you got in a verbal arguement about what system was better you basically ended up laughing it off in the end.  But today people are going all out, yelling, screaming, fighting,making videos, etc.   It only a matter of time before someone gets killed IRL cause of it.   Maybe it's cause I was a kid and didn't see the big picture and didn't know a whole lot,  but I somehow doubt that.

PS3 vs. 360 in terms of sales is almost a tie, not to say it took 8 years unlike the old 5-6 years gens, not to say that internet provided people means to fight worldwise and with a lot more of data to back them up.

SNES vs. Genesis was pretty close too, and with more frontal company attacks, but that's about it, 7th gen war surpassed 4th gen war.

Also, 6th gen didn't even had one, was a one sided massacre made by the PS2, it killed Sega, made GameCube the worst Nintendo console ever, and the newcomer Microsoft know that it had no chance with ther X shapped box.

I think "brutal" isn't all companies doing very well. "brutal" should be reserved for cuthroat tactics, which both Sony and Nintendo pulled off in 4th and 6th gen respectively.

It's not a gamers peculiarity, humans being are that way. They fight and fight eachother non-stop, because of brands, sports, teams, countries, everything.

Its different here though as you are competing against others ot win, thats the goal. With console wars all you are doing is hoping someone fails to the dismay of others, there is no reward for winning as it doesnt affect you.
