It's not a gamers peculiarity, humans being are that way. They fight and fight eachother non-stop, because of brands, sports, teams, countries, everything.

Its different here though as you are competing against others ot win, thats the goal. With console wars all you are doing is hoping someone fails to the dismay of others, there is no reward for winning as it doesnt affect you.
