Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do You Still Think Wii U Can Do 25 million??

Wii U got better exclusives than GC and will probably have a longer life
At the end of 2015 there really should be no reason for a Nintendo fan to not have a Wii U

The true fans of a console are generally in a minority and the rest generally buy third party. Nintendo has a limited number of consumers to themselves on a traditional console unless they create a hot fad like they did last gen. The market will be much smaller this gen, since there is no Wii to fill in the gaps. 2015 will be a rough year for Nintendo because thats when Sony and Microsofts exclusives are going to start coming out wall to wall. Nintendo had their second year to jump ahead of the competition. Sony and Microsofts second years are coming soon.

GameCube only managed around 21 million if I am not mistaken.

It's still tracking a couple million below gamecube (even below dreamcast).

It is more underpowered and has less third party support than the GameCube had during its lifespan.

Its biggest game came out and it can only manage to do 60k in a week.

Almost all of its high selling franchises are already on the platform (just missing Smash Bros)

Smash Bros is also on 3DS.

Japan is a smaller market now than ever before.

The New Zelda is cartoon which most zelda fans dislike.

Will probably have a shorter lifespan than the GameCube due to it not being as powerful as the competition and being much cheaper.

Online lags far behind than the competition.

Nintendo so expect essentially zero advertising.

Wii U is being discontinued in some major retailers in the US just like Vita

I see no way the Wii U can outsell gamecube. If anything the Wii U will hit 17 million. What do you think?

It will struggle to hit 10 million. I doubt it will even reach 12m before a replacement is brought out (if Nintendo continue with large hardware).

Not the best thread, but it's still funny to see how quickly certain Nintendo fans declare that Wii U could never sell sub 25 million. You should be more careful with such claims.

imo it can hit it but it wont pass n64 numbers

just gotta keep putting games out :)

I don't see it. Nintendo have their big hitters, but inbetween those they just can't produce enough to hide the general lack of appeal of the Wii U. The Wii U is a system for the Nintendo core and I don't think that the Nintendo core is still that big.

I think this holiday/early 2015 will decide

Bets:

(Won)Bet with TechoHobbit: He(Techno) says 10 million by January 1,2014 I say 9 million by then. Winner gets 2 weeks of sig control.

(Lost)Bet with kinisking: I say Ps4 will win April NPD while he says Xbox One will win it; winner gets 1 week of avatar control.

Raichu's First Series:

First RPG?

First Fighter?

First Racer?

First Shooter?

First MMO?

First Horror?

Official Ni No Kuni Fanboy:

Familiars Captured:37

Game Beaten: 2 times almost

Times I got teary during some scenes: 3

I agree with that. PS4 is going to crush anything and Wii U / Xbone are going to fight the race to 20million only. Just like the good old days.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Ok, let me set you all straight

The wiiU was the first Nintendo console to be released a year before the competition.

2014 will see Super Smash Bros AND Amiibo, both will give a major boost to the wiiU

We also have bayonetta and hyrule warriors, plus that toad game

Early reactions to Zelda U AND Splatoon are very positive.

The wiiU is most certainly gonna break every trend out there, and do something spectacular!!!!!

I can guarantee you that the wiiU will most definitely sell 10 million by no later than...wait for it....2015!!!

You can count on that! TWO THOUSAND FIFTEEN!!!!

The Wii U is more underpowered than the GameCube? First of all the GameCube was very powerful for its time, and second of all, what are you comparing? Its a common mistake that the Wii U is "underpowered". Yes, it is, WHEN COMPARED to the PS4/Xbone, but on its own it is not underpowered, unlike the Wii, which was underpowered, even on its own.  Its biggest game came out and it can only manage to do 60k in a week. On the first week MK8 came out,  the Wii U sold more than 100k units, and the Wii U was averaging at 30k before MK8, so a 200% average increase is actually really good. Smash Bros is also on 3DS.So? Many games are multiplatform. Titanfall on the Xbox 360 did not lower the Xbone version's sales. The 3DS and Wii U versions are very different, and most people want the Wii U version more As well, in some paces, the Wii U version is getting more preorders. The New Zelda is cartoon which most zelda fans dislike...... Its not 2002 anymore. Most people now adays love Wind Waker's art style more that Twilight Princess's. I have not seen one bad article about Zelda U, and a lot of articles prasing the art style. Also I wouldn't call it cartoon, its more of cell shading. Will probably have a shorter lifespan than the GameCube due to it not being as powerful as the competition and being much cheaper. Nintendo has already said they are going to go for a full lifetime, which for them is 5-7 years. Online lags far behind than the competition.  Have you tired it? I have played a lot of online on my Wii U, and rarely have issues (and the MK8 dissconnects were due to a glitch when people disconncted before chosing a course and NOT the online). Nintendo so expect essentially zero advertising. ..... FIrst of all I don't know what that means. Second of all have you seen Mario Kart's advertising, and wwhat Nintendo has done with Smash so far. There doing more than what I see with most other triple A games.

Oh and for specific sales, I will say with how it is selling now, It could easily hit 35 M lifetime sales. (outselling N64), and pass 10 Million by the end of this year, maybe even 12 Million

I would agree with you as long as the console keeps tracking behind the gamecube. There's no indication so far that it will start tracking above.

There is a lot of indication. Once Wii U price will be slashed in one year probably, it will do better. Nintendo brand is way stronger than at the GC time. The Wii U will slowly rise and it has begun.
