Honestly I think they won last Gen. Besides the initial hardware issues, it was phenomenal.

They can offset the Playstation, but worldwide the Xbox cannot beat Sony unless their perception changes. The second the PS3 launched analysts were following the sales and said the gap would be closed between 2011-2012 without putting the Kinect into the equation. If there was no Kinect the PS3 would've outsold the Xbox by 2011.

And going by a sales per year, the PS3 was ahead (credit goes to ZhugeEx for the graph). When you align the PS3 and 360's 1st years, their shipments are nearly identical despite the 360 having a year headstart and the PS3 having an abysmmal launch.
