All this doom and gloom is ridiculous in both sides. It's summertime. Console sales ALWAYS drop off at this time. Do the research and see for yourselves. Both PS4 and X1 have more than doubled sales of the previous consoles during the first 8 months. I remember the PS3 selling 20k a week at one point it's first year. And if no one thinks consoles won't fly off shelves thus fall, they're nuts. Honestly, the cries of "DOOOOOM!!!" are silly. Just look at first year PS3 sales. They were far, far worse than anything the PS4 or X1 has put forth or will put forth this year.

Consoles will be fine. Calm down.

You remember wrong, I'm afraid.

The lowest the PS3 ever sold in a given week was 50k, and that was before releasing in Europe. Post EU release it went as low as 58k, just before a price cut. For the record, those were considered absolutely dreadful number back then. We've just gotten used to the new baselines.

The PS4 is doing OK considering its age. The X1 and Wii U, not so much.

No I don't remember wrong, considering I'm only talking about the U.S.

Sorry, but I don't believe these numbers at all. Last month the PS4 was overtracked by 50k in America and this week it sold 100k (according to VGC). So how the hell can it have been 'reduced' to 8.1m? At the worse is should be STILL 8.2m.

vgcz adjusted ps4's numbers in europe down by almost 10k per week every week going back through janurary.  that's about a 200k negative adjustment to ps4.

And why exactly? How about we see that XB1 number reduced too.

The PS5 Exists.

Why do people STILL say that the XB1 is not released in all territories yet as if that is the reason the sales are the way they are for it? Not a shot at you foodfather I just still see this to this day and is confusing. Like does everything think it will be a huge jump when it comes out in all of those territories? I would think it would only be maybe a 2,500-5,00 difference at best. Which is good but still not to different from what it is doing right now. Just my thoughts on that...

Pretty bad week over all for everything. But ti is the slowest time of year with no real big game releases coming for a while so no big deal there really. I see the 3DS is on top but is it up from last year? I am not sure....well anyway folks better get used to these kind of number for a few months!

Then you should've specified.

It's summer so I am not too bothered, it's VGC figures, so not too bothered (will wait for NPD ;) )...

Not sure what people expected to be honest. Expected XBO to be slightly higher but not massive, but not sure why people were expecting it to sell lots, just with it being at a time when it will have little impact (in the middle of summer, when people don't buy games are on holiday) and the world cup is on.

MS should have held off removing kinect until september, it would have probably had more of a positive impact, doing it in a month when consoles don't normally do that well, not sure what they were expecting.... a flood of people going off to buy one.

My deepest, most insincere apologies then.

Seriously though, PS4 and 3DS sales are so close that we can't really be sure which one sold more this week. A 4k advantage for a handheld that costs some 230$ less than the PS4 and has a much more numerous library of games is not such a great accomplishment imho.

It will take a cold, hard dose of reality for them to accept that 2nd tier countries aren't going to move the needle any.  Once September hits and the console is still failing to sell, then they will talk about how "Halo 5" or "Phantom Dust" will "Save" the console next year.  These guys live in a permanent state of denial.
