Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Has Nintendo run out of ideas for new IP's?

I heard they don't reset their routers since ages, because they're afraid of getting a new IP...

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I don't know. It seems like they have considering they almost only make sequels, and it has been that way for a while.

now now children go read some history, Xenoblade is NOT a new IP

How is it not a new IP?

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with Xenogears if that is what you are implying.

its part fo the same series so yes it technically does.

You're wrong there, it has nothing to do with any previous Xeno game and is not part of the series, Xenoblade was a title Nintendo gave the game as a tribute the director and his team.

He said a good IP, we don't know if this new one is good or not yet.
To me, Nintendo just don't deliver a really good new IP since the 90's... that's totally unacceptable.

We dont know if any new IP is good until it is released.

Destiny, BloodBorne and all the other new IPs shown at E3 could be complete garbage.

The thread is made just to hate on Nintendo

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

I don't know what to say anymore about Nintendo and new IPs. I like some, I don't like some, I think between the last 5 years certainly they have not garnered the attention at the capacity of past games, but then again what has? It has either been sequels, prequels, spin-offs, remakes, etc. All big 3 console makers fall into the same category. Really, I think the normal gamer has been so used to playing games that they see parallels into older games they've played before and for the most part it's true. Gamers are so used to playing games that even when a new IP comes out, they don't see the value because they either have lofty standards or are just in the beer goggles of gaming.

Think of a game, any game within the last 5 years and tell me that game is completely devoid of repeats of game mechanics, story or what have you. Even new IPs we consider to be darlings of the game industry will take queues from past games. Its understandable and just the nature of the beast. It's been 30+ years of video games, it's just normal that no new IP will set the world on fire and be a complete new gameplay.

Reading everyone comments and their inputs about new IPs, I certainly agree that Nintendo has been putting out new IPs. There's just no way to deny that they aren't. It's just the consensus with some gamers is that they don't.

I guess my respond to the op is this: Nintendo is trying. Sony is trying. Microsoft is trying. I think the OP needs to understand there isn't some magical new IP that will be both new gameplay and overall just new. All 3 of them have been putting out there new IP, simply it's not what your brain is telling you.

Yes I realise that but they also did it to tie it in with the rest of the series. To try and win some sales from previous series fans.

Next people will tell me Starfox Adventures isn't starfox cause it started out life as something else and they didn't like the zelda like elements of the game so block it out.

Sorry you're wrong no two ways about it, it's a separate franchise altogether and as someone said it was originally called Monado, different universe, characters, story and all, Xenoblade has nothing to do with any other Xeno game what so ever the name is just a tribute to Takahasi and his team so fans realize the quality behind the game nothing more. The fact you've tried using Starfox in some broken logic to look right doesn't look good for you either, you just have to hold your hands up here.
