Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's in a 'bag of hurt' because of Blu-ray

Let ODDs die, please. PLEASE. I hate them... They are loud, they are slow, they are set to break over time...

Add to that the fact that streaming media looks like hot garbage compared to a good bd on home theatre.

I know! I am collecting BDs up the yingyang because I just got a great new projector and it looks amazing compared to streaming.

WTF! If "Good enough" is good enough, why such hate for the Xbox One and its lower resolutions? People on here really don't care about image quality? Could have FOOLED ME in all the X1 related threads.

But if it's about movies, then SCREW resolution, quality, color-depth, etc. Just 'good enough' is fine.

I don't get people.

Blu-ray is still growing although slowly, it's dvd that's declining more rapidly.

I don't see an alternative in digital for collecting movies long term. I can't even stream a single blu-ray quality movie a month. The last 10 days I've had to monitor my internet usage again since the kids had been using you tube too much. 80GB limit is getting smaller and smaller. Tomorrow I can download Child of light, limit resets on the 2nd. A lot of movies I like are not available digitally either, well not legally anyway.

CD is still around but sadly you have to order online now for a good selection. The shelf space for CD is laughable nowadays. No more browsing for obscure music :(

Blu-ray shelf space is still growing however, DVD is shrinking. In my local store blu-ray has more shelf space nowadays than DVD (including 3D shelves)

Are you joking? Blu-ray's are crazy expensive. Thats why they dont sell as much in europe.

I'm not gonna pay 25+ euros for a blu-ray.

Yeah. Those Panasonic high end home theater plasma and Pioneer Kuro sales really indicate how much people care about best picture money can buy.  We are in the age of "good enough" not "best of the best".

And yet there still people out there bitching and moaning when games are not 1080p. I gaurantee you that if physical media to go away. People will start bitching about storage space, cloud space rental, internet lag, internet bandwidth, why they cant access a movie that they already bought, and internet cap.

Ill stick with my physical media. I know %100 that i have the movie that i bought with the quality that i wanted it in.

Regardless of how big or small the optical media market is/will be is of little concern to me as long as it's a viable business option for consumer choice for consumers such as myself. Currently, I've been watching Breaking Bad. Been really enjoying the show, and I plan to watch the entire series. So far, Netflix has been a great service to allow me to do so for only $8 a month. My DirecTV Genie DVR allows me to store a plethora of Disney Jr. shows for my 3 year old. I personally think it's almost highway robbery to buy what's saved on my DVR on DVD from, let's say, Wal-Mart when I have the convenience of the DVR. But I'm a big Doctor Who and Walking Dead fan. I want the best quality and most convenience access to these programs when I want to re-watch them. Blu-Ray is current the best option, and having that option serves me well. So regardless of how "little" money Sony is making from Blu-ray, Blu-ray is still the top option for video and audio quality as long as the price the right. And for me and many other consumers, the price is right depending on what and how much they are really into.

EDIT: Let me clarify that I'm a big Matt Smith Doctor fan.  Looking forward to Peter Capaldi.

Hey shut yerrr mouth!! (jk) Europe gets some awesome Bluray movies that NA doesnt get and it pisses me off!!!

Honestly in the end, I dont care what format games and movies are in as long as it's in some physical form that doesn't require internet.  Put it all on SD cards or something else I dont care,  but I can't stand not physically owning something I paid for.

Gratz! Good projector + blu-ray is better than the average cinema experience. For the best possible image quality get Samsara. Best looking  blu-ray I have out of 350+. Best sound is Akira, DTS-HD MA 15mbps 192khz 24 bit hypersonic 5.1 track. Master and commander does an exellent job for immersive surround sound storm effects, Tron awesome electronic and bass effects, Oblivion's sound track is great too.

Physical copies>Digital always
