Forums - Sony Discussion - Warframe is PS4's second most-downloaded app (> 2 million); more free-to-play planned

The most downloaded free app for PlayStation 4 is Netflix. The second-most-downloaded? Free-to-play shooter Warframe.

Digital Extreme's third-person shooter, which launched at the same time as the console, has been downloaded millions of times. Sony won't give out numbers but confirmed that the number is higher than two million. PlayStation 4 has so far sold seven million units.

According to SCEA's VP of publisher and developer relations Adam Boyes, more free-to-play games will be coming to PS4.

"You will see a huge focus from Sony in the next few years on free-to-play stuff because of that good performance," he told Polygon. A Sony spokesperson added that the game is monetizing "at least as well" as free-to-play titles on Windows PC, where the market is more advanced.

So amazing game nobody care...

I'm going to my second Warframe... finally a Rhino.

Played it in PC. Great game. I might download it in PS4 again.

Great! Hope to see more Free to play games coming to consoles.

App? It's a game. Ignoring the stupid term, surely this means it's that it's the most downloaded game? As if a game is classed as an app then all games are apps so if Netflix is the most downloaded but it's not a game, then this is the best downloaded game on PS4.

Congratulations.

Hmm, pie.

F2P can really suck you in. My kids have spent more on Smite (while it was in Beta no less) than they would have if it had been a $100 (NZD) retail game. And aside from buying the ultimate God pack all the rest of the money has gone on skins and voice packs, which are cool and all but ultimately meaningless. Glad they don't have pay to win though. Helluva fun game, but I refuse to spend a dime on it because they've already got their pound of flesh out of this family.

Warframe is fun, but I won't be financially contributing to it because I probably won't play it enough to get value for money. Glad it's doing well, and when a F2P game comes that I do know I'll put time into then I'll gladly contribute with some of those micro-transactions that are necessary for the F2P model to work.

And speaking of Smite and more F2P coming to PS4 there have been rumours of a Smite release on PS4. If it does come I hope you can use the same account as you already have on PC.

Congrats to warframe.

They should hurry up and get Planetside2 on there. I'm pretty sure that'd do good as well.

smite is indeed very addicitve. also played it back in beta.

And if that's true it is coming to ps4 that would be amazing

This way they can tout PS4 success as a media player.

Besides

App-> Application -> "a program or piece of software designed and written to fulfill a particular purpose of the user" -> Purpose being entertainment.

You can buy games on the app store, right?

I know App is application, I hate the term 'App', like it's the cool thing just because of Apple. I like the terms application, well Program is better. Would they shortern it to the 'Prog Store'?

Stupid Apple.

Hmm, pie.

i been told on good authority that nobody cares at about these games at all. they simply aren't "noticeable" enough for people to bother with them.
