Forums - Movies & TV - Bluray getting desperate; new content is actually old content

People, please. We're getting a lot of reports flying in from this thread. No more needless attacks or flaming (or, heck, breaking any of the rules) else you'll be seeing the door.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Is this a clever (not at all) way of talking about console exclusives? If it is, it's really pretty lame, and not anywhere near the same thing. Horrible.

About console exclusives? um no. Why don't you keep your shit-talking out of the thread before you embarass yourself (or I do it for you).

Please, on your best day, you couldn't embarrass me, but you can try. And I wasn't talking shit, so relax. I wasn't the only who got that impression. Notice the underlined part? It was just my, and some others impression, hence the "if it is" part.

The key differences with this analogy is that the blu-ray port of old movies aren't sold at full price. They're sold for $10. Also blu-ray players can play and upscale DVDs while PS4 can't play ps3 discs at all.

Ignore the haters prof. I thought your thread was clever. You rock old sport.

Where do you buy these $10 old ports? Criterion collection is $25 and up. A lot of others don't start at $10 either, more like $20, it's only after a while that left over stock is sold at $10. Same with games.

I wish blu-ray was region free like games are now. There are a lot of movies that don't come out here or much later. I should buy a region free player, but with 4K around the corner I guess I better wait.
Why is 1492: Conquest of paradise only available in Europe
Why is City of lost children, a french movie, only available in Japan. Japan is the same region as US, but French with Japanese subtitles in pretty pointless.
Why is The Andromeda strain only available in Germany.
Why are Porco Rosso, Kiki's delivery service, Princess Mononoke not available here. The last one I imported from Hong Kong, NA sucks for releases.

I hope releases will make more sense with 4K blu-ray but I doubt it.

Looks like you did the job yourself after all.

EDIT: In fact, not a single post in the thread shared your impression. But if you're pointing out that you were just repeating what jaywood said....well, lesson learned for you I guess.

No you >:( It's incredibly glitchy with my Galaxy, and it usually ends up changing words from the person I quoted.

Amazon mostly. I bought Fight Club for $10 when it came out. Granted, the list price was like $25, but Amazon sold it for way less on its release. I've seen countless others similar to that.

Some release start at $10, some at $15. I guess it depends on how much volume they expect to shift.
Royal Tennenbaums $41, The last emperor $36, Akira $30, while Reservoir dogs, 300, Terminator are $8. It's all over the place.

Looking a bit further, you're right, most re-releases are near $10 nowadays. Damn my expensive taste.
And that list price from Amazon, I have never see anywhere that sells it for that high.

Ok, You say not a single post, then you say jaywood.... Yup, not a single post! Boy, am I embarrassed! And, my post was up without reading beyond your op. I really don't get why you're so worked up, but whatever. I don't care. Not a single post, except for jay! Keep contradicting yourself. It embarrasses me.... I'm done wasting my time on this hot topic. Bye bye now prof!

Are we secretly bashing and conversing about a certain thing/s in secret?

If so, I want in.

Seems like this completely went over some people's heads.

Anyway I agree. Blu-ray is making ports of those older movies and it's sad. Can't we get any new movies? I can't believe they are forcing us to buy upgraded copies of movies. My older DVD copies seem to have stopped working. Why Blu-ray? WHY?

If you already have the DVD and it works, no reason you have to replace it.
If you are going to buy/rent a new disc of the movie, what is so strange about it being released in the best modern format?
Are you complaining that original Star Wars is not continuing to be produced in VHS format?

The people who would buy/rent Bluray have a blu-ray player and almost certainly a HD TV.
Why would they not want to take advantage of those capabilities?, that is what they bought the player/TV for.

Right, but Blu-ray grows only slowly and DVD is in fast decline. On-demand services are growing very fast. You can't expect fast growth of Blu-ray, it won't compensate the DVD losses.

Great, but that isn't the topic of the thread.
If nobody wanted to buy physical copies, then no physical copies would be produced, whether BluRay, DVD, Laserdisc, or VHS.
Obviously people do want to buy/rent physical copies, BR in particular, and that is why BR continue to be pressed.

the prof said:

Keep in mind that some new BRs are in the 40-50$ range.

Some VHS were in that range or higher.  AND?
Such pricing is by the film producer based on what they think they can charge and still earn the most $, not an issue with the BR format.
Had BR not existed, there is no reason to believe that certain DVDs would also be released at higher than average price points.
The more BR gets popular the less niche/highend cache it has, and the less it will be able to comman a price premium.
