I think its pretty obvious Nintendo is working on their own version of a toy+videogames business.

And really, does anyone here really care about skylanders? Its a kid's game.

a kids game that generated over a billion dollars.

Over 2 billion since February 2014.

Common we all knwo what it means

NFC + pokemon = shitz all over skylanders.

Now the big question is will Nintendo do it or will they release something stupid like Nintendo dogs NFC game instead hoping to win casuals back lol.

Skylanders came to and is still coming to Nintendo systems, so what exactly is the missed opportunity?

i think exclusivity, which would have forced parents to buy a Wii U for their kids to play it instead of a system they want to play on.

I remember when my friend, who works for Vicarious Visions, first told me about Skylanders. I thought it was a really cool idea, but didn't grasp the phenomenon it would become.

Maybe Nintendo executives couldn't see the big picture either. Or maybe the terms of the partnership were too toxic for Nintendo.

Anyway, I think this worked out well for all involved. Activision and Vicarious Visions get more creative freedom; Nintendo gets, arguably, the best versions of the games; and fans of all platforms get to experience Skylanders.

its the same game across the board, how is the Wii version the best?

i keep hearing people say this and it makes me laugh of bit. It sounds like its almost apologetic for Ninty to not snag up exclusivity when it could. If Ninty was going to do a NFC+Pokemon game they would have one out by now. We are three Skylanders games deep and Disney already brought there version out. you really think Ninty wouldnt have jumped on seeing how popular they got. If they ARE waiting then they are stupid.

What nintendo really needs is give liberty and power to Nintendo of America and Europe so they can make choices without going through Japan for everything

I never said they were smart jsut saying what someone at their office in Japan is thinking that they don't need it cause they have pokemon up their sleve. But realistically it is a long shot hence the nintendo dogs joke. If they do finally release it it may be too late as the toy craze will wear off.

I do think they missed an opportunity to have an exclusive that would cater to their core audience of kids. This wuld have sold Wii Us if they couldn't buy it on competitions systems.

I never mentioned Wii, although one could argue that the Wii version of Spyro's Adventure is better just because of its wireless "portal of power."

I was referring mostly to the Wii U versions of the games. The Wii U allows consumers to play exclusively on the GamePad or use it to keep track of statistics and objectives. The latter might seem insignificant, but it's actualy a huge improvement over pausing and browsing through the menu everytime you need to check missions or change gear.

In addition, the 3DS versions of the games have unique mechanics, levels, stories, etc., although that doesn't necessarily make them better. It does, however, mean that Nintendo systems play host to the complete Skylanders experience, and, as I said, arguably the best.

I doubt anyone does care about Skylanders here, apart from maybe buying it for a kid, nephew, younger brother etc.  I thought it was interesting because it is another possible example of Nintendo failing in third party relations.

I don't think Skylanders is the ripest example for third-party failure on Nintendo's end though. They still aggressively co-market it with Activision.

It's not an accident that Skylanders sells best on both last and next Wii platforms.

Well in regards the toys there is no one console they sell on, you can get the game for any system for 30euros or so but the toys come in from 9-18euros each and are cross platform so you'd have to know the average collection of toys which each console user would have to know which console made activision the most money from it.
