Forums - Sales Discussion - If the X1 does not pass the Wii U by the end of this year, will you be shocked?

Nope. It was obvious from before their launch that PS4 would be a run away success and XBO would flounder.

i will be shocked if xb1 doesnt pass wiiu. i expect it to happen either in Nov or Dec. most likely early Nov.

It's gonna happen. I know this is gonna sound offensive even though i don't really mean it that way, but all that MS needs to do to resecure some 360 converts is show off a 1 minute teaser of Halo 5 and/or Gears without any gameplay whatsoever at E3 and they'll go back running to the XB1 as the dudebros that they are. Bound to be a fairly small boost but enough to fight the small boost from MK8 and etc

Well,Xone sales in europe are mediocre and is decreasing in US.Tintanfall was not "the sencond coming of christ" sales-wise like some people hoped. If don't surpass the WiiU this year i would not be suprised.

It'll be incredibly sad if the X1 can't even match the Wii U after a year. By then the PS4 will be a good 8 million ahead, at least

no not at all, I have faith in smash bros, mario kart 8, bayonetta 2, x, and hyrule warriors to keep wii u ahead

I expect both of them to end up with about 10 million sales once the year is up, so no, I wouldn't be surprised.

I would. X1 sold 1.1M so far this year and Wii U sold 0.5M, so the gap decreased 0.6M in the slowest 3 months of the year. If things remained this way, the rest of the year would remove 1.8M and end the gap, but we know that the others quarters will be higher, specially Q4, so the gap will shrink faster.

As we saw with Titanfall, a big game only gives a few weeks of better sales and things return to normal afterwards. Mario Kart and SSB will do just that. What increases sales with long term effects is a big library, a thing that PS4 and One doesn't have right now and that Wii U should have. I believe that the Wii U library won't improve because of the lack of 3rd party support while both PS4 and One will see improved sales after the big games hit (Watch Dogs, Destiny, CoD, AC: Unity). If Sony manages to get good japanese games on PS4, it will probably steal Wii U sales in Japan (without hurting X1 since Japan won't make any diff for it) and help X1 overtaking Wii U.

It's a matter of marketing. Everybody is talking about PS4 vs X1, the new console wars. To the public perception, Wii U is already out of the competition.

i don't know about shocked. wiiU has almost a 2M lead and xbone only outsold wiiU by 50k this week.

Considering X1 sold 85K and Wii U sold 33K, that 50K is more than double, it's a big difference.

SSB and MK can do it. Bayonetta isn't even a medium seller, Hyrule Warriors is a spin-off and X is a mistery (despite that, I believe it will outsell both HW and Bayonetta).

I wouldnt be shocked at all. Even though they manage to find sucess on the US, the X1 only managed to penetrate one region sucessfully.

So, it all depends on how much of a boost Nintendo Mario Kart 8 and later line-up boosts sales worldwide. Also depends on what Microsoft has coming. But, knowing microsoft its gonna be another load of shooters aimed at the US, wich they already penetrated.
